Sooo... DS is 29 months.

My overriding philosophy on this issue has been that I wanted him to learn when he was ready, and I'm not a big fan of using rewards. Here's what's going on, in case you mamas have some helpful insights!

If he is naked or wearing only shorts or underwear, he will always tee-tee in the potty, or in the yard, LOL!

He used to poop in the little potty on occasion - on his own. He has not done this in many months. He prefers privacy and a deep squat for pooping. I showed him how to climb up on the big potty in this way on his own once, and ONCE, totally by himself, he went in there and pooped. But not since.

He prefers to poop in a diaper, and so he does so after a nap or first thing in the morning, or sometimes he'll ask for a diaper. He goes through bouts of constipation, and I wonder if this is related to him "holding it" until he has a diaper.

Most recently - within the past few days, he has not wanted to tee-tee in the potty - well, it's more like he doesn't want to stop what he's doing to go do it. And so he's holding it for long periods of time. This bothers me and it doesn't seem healthy.

Now again - I don't want to push him into learning all this, but I'm wondering how much of it is distraction that's getting in the way of his learning, and what I might could do differently to offer him more freedom to continue learning. We've been "stuck" for awhile now.... He LOVES to learn new things, especially things that allow him more independence. Maybe he's getting his needs for that met in so many other ways that he's left the potty progress behind?

What do y'all think?

it's the ol' "2 steps forward, one step back" thing it sounds like. my dd (will be 3 in december) is the same way. she went through a month or so long phase where the potty was something that just did not fit in with her schedule (did not want to stop what she was doing to potty) and then slowly got back into peeing on the potty but she pretty much refuses to poop on the potty now and will poop in a diaper and then say "mommy change poopoo!" or she'll just poop outside and either i will step in it at some point or our dog will eat it before i can get dd and the poop cleaned up
anyways, i wonder if the excitement of your new pregnancy may have something to do with it?
besides that, i really don't have much advise as i am experiencing the same predicament. i guess we'll both have to sit back and see what others say!
