View Full Version : How do I find a chicken pox party?

Casually asking around hasn't worked.

Google shows me that Texas ( here) is ground zero in immunizing against it. A doctor spouting about how incredibly dangerous it is- while the nurses in the audience had taken their ( still living) children to these.

My son's PA won't help me find a party- he's all about immunizations. Little girl's dr tells me it's a hipaa violation for her to tell me.

I'se frustrated, and fried. School starts on Monday. Dh will quit waking me up to make his lunch- I'll sleep, or get a nap, or something. And I'll figure out I have to post a note at the health food store, or something. Go online? Somewhere? Craig's List? I'll get to walk around without the fabulous air sucking staccato mom, lego, mom, lego chant. And maybe, possibly, I'll have a coherent thought.

anyway, how do I go about finding this? The only other people I know who had it didn't call us- we were out of their radar, since I've been confined, more or less, to the house by he who shall be named #2. Who is heading to kindergarten.

would a note to the school nurse asking her to call me? I'm the only waivered parent, that I know of. A note to another school? Another school nurse? The Waldorf School- would that be better?

d'oh.

Hang out with the homeschoolers. There was plenty of chicken pox and pertussis (not that you want to get that!) going around our homeschool group in Florida every winter. Or yes, the Waldorf school.

Um I have shingles, and just found out that a kid can get chicken pox from an adult w/shingles. But ya know, you want to be careful w/these pox parties...I wouldn't go around having your kids touch strange adult's body rashes. LOL. But if someone you knew/trusted had shingles...

I wouldn't ask your school nurse, you will get a note if there is a confirmed case. The note will not tell you who has it, but then you can ask around. Many people will think you are crazy trying to expose your kids. See if there is a AP group where you are, then casually ask around. Maybe I am paranoid, but I don't make it public knowledge that I would like to expose dd.(I guess I just did though)

It took us a couple years of looking, and we found some this spring, exposed her twice, and still nothing.

I always thought that once the pox was visible, it wasn't as contagious.

My two older kids were with best friends during the most contagious stages and never came down with it.

My very 'with it' pediatrician notes that if you purposely expose your child to CP and they have complications like pneumonia......you will never forgive yourself. If you don't vaccinate and they by chance are exposed to it, it is less a guilt issue.

I finally vaxed them when they were 12. As you get older, it is more miserable to go through.

It is not always a winning situation, whatever you do!

there are yahoo groups for parents looking for pox parties. You post when you get spots and invite people over. We are on one for chicago, my 2 youngest were exposed same time last year, 4yro got a wicked case nothing on the baby, she was still a heavy nurser though. We shared suckers.
