For those of you that are canning this season, St Vincent De Paul's thrift store main big depot has thousands of canning jars outside for 10¢ each. I think it might depend on who is marking them (they have different pricing guys outside) but I got a box of 12 wide mouth quart jars for $1.20 :D add to that a $3.56 box of lids/rings from Winco and I had a less than $5 set of jars :) 3 now hold 1 pound batches of soap oils (trying to prepare for when Chloe takes a nap-quick soap) and 4 carry bulk items in my cupboards :)

I am not a big canner ;) but I love canning jars.

They had tons of quart jars, quite a few jelly sized jars, the only thing that was lacking was the wide mount pint jars I love so much for herbs... oh well :) can't complain about 10¢ jars ;)

I could sure use those now! Not sure why it's so hard to find used jars around here. When I have seen them at yard sales, they're still usually marked $5 a dozen.

Thanks for the heads up Selena! I need to check my mason jar stash as I have some canning coming up.

PEACHES! yum :D

Wow, I'd be all over that. I'm jealous.

Our Goodwill prices them used without rings/lids at prices higher than you can buy them NEW w/ the rings/lids. The crazy thing is that they must sell, because they keep disappearing.

Oh well, thankfully I've had most of mine given to me. Older people are so happy to pass them on to someone who *actually* cans.

I was bummed after reading this thread, then went to the hardware store to buy jars but they didn't have any. However, the clerk at the store told me to go to a certain thrift store because they had lots, so I went and they were all a dollar a dozen! So I got a dozen pint sized jars and filled 10 of them today already. LOL. Woohoo. I did plum jam and fruit chutney and will go back for more tomorrow I think. They had tons of them, like a whole shed out back full. Awesome. They even had some new lids and rings and stuff, so I'll go back for those tomorrow too.

yeah, the local thrift stores usually sell them for a $1 each... which seams reasonable until you add it up;) the most I have ever seen new jars at was $12.99 a dozen and they come WITH rings... I was pretty excited to see the multitudes of them ;)

I am gonna drag Jody there soon ;)
