I pumped exclusively for my cleft palate angel for 26 months. I am still not over the loss of the nursing relationship even though my current baby nurses great. Why is this pain so persistent? It was so hard to bond with her because she was so very difficult to feed. I would spend 10+hours per day forcing her to take just enough to survive and half the time she would throw it right back up. I suffered from severe PPD bordering on psychosis and really feel that not being able to nurse her really contributed to that.:sob:

I've been pumping for my ds (was a micro-preemie) for 11 months now and I really miss not having a breastfeeding relationship as well.

I had breastfed my now 22 year old son, had breastfed my second son and had also breast fed my now 4 year old son up until they turn four years old!!!

For the mommies, you should take in lots and lots of fluids to produce milk. Remember, it is "supply and demand" technique. And you have to follow feeding on demand rather than feeding on the times the doctor tells you to feed your child. These are the only secret to it all. And feeding breast milk, using the bottle is not a good idea. ... a very bad idea, actually.

Why is it a very bad idea?

I know I am late seeing and replying to this, but you have my totally curious on this.

I have been nursing for the last 9 and a half years and am currently exclusively pumping and tube feeding by 15 month old and trying hard to get him on a bottle which contains expressed breast milk. None of my girls weaned before 2 years 8 months and my three year old is still nursing, so I obviously know it is easier, but as long as they get the mommy milk why does it matter so strongly how?

I just want to give you some love and hugs. You did a great job and more than most. Feeding issues are really stressful on a mother child relationship. Eating is one of the most basic needs and when we can't feed our babies successfully it is totally devastating.

I was never able to nurse my little one either. He wasn't able to, aspiration and swallowing issues on top of a poor suck, so he ended up tube fed.

It hurts.
