I'm so happy this works...I have saved about three big bags of greens from certain doom, LOL.

I wash them and use as much as we can within a week. What's left over gets frozen in gallon Ziplocs, uncooked. I use them frozen in my green smoothies (recipe below!). The smoothies taste the same as if I'd use fresh greens.

Sorry for the estimated amounts...depending on the types of greens you use this comes out purple, green or even black! But always delicious.

About 1.5 cups soymilk
1 large or 2 medium bananas (fresh is best but can be frozen, just might have to add water to thin)
About 1.5 cups frozen strawberries
Approximately 2-3 cups of frozen or fresh greens
1-2 tsp spirulina
(I also add 1 tbsp omega-3 powder Omega 3 Powder fatty acids fish oil benefit the brain's problem solving skills, focus, and concentration by Omega-3 Brain Booster (http://www.omega3powder.com))

Greens to try: beet greens, mesclun mix, romaine, spinach, red leaf, green leaf, swiss chard, kale, parsley - I've put it all in.

Blend the heck out of it. (I use the Vitamix.) Enjoy!

That is a great idea, but I have to ask you...how does it taste? My 13 year old hates eating anything I want her to eat but she sorta likes smoothies sometimes if I allow her to add sugar, lol. I wonder if I could get her to drink this by adding a tbsp of white sugar to it.....

great idea!
I find that pureeing or mincing and adding to spaghetti sauce or even pesto sauce hides them too...

although I have been known to mince up greens and add to country potatoes, or scrambled eggs. As far as I am concerned, greens are a versatile food.

I love it. My picky dd will not drink it. But I love the taste of a green smoothie. To me it has that "green" flavor, but is totally sweet because of the bananas, soymilk, and strawberries. You can even try adding another banana if it's not masked enough.

A friend of mine swears by a shake she makes like this with a banana and a cup of parsley. Which always sounded scary to me, but I have a ton of parsley and a couple of frozen bananas so I just might try it.
