Post yours!

***

Mine are:

*Eat out of the pantry and from the CSA as much as possible. Lots of grilled veggies, salads, beans and rice and Highland beef from the freezer. I really need to keep grocery costs low this month.

*Get the Great Basement Cleanup of 2007 finished. I have four or five large tubs of small to medium toys and parts to sort through and I would like to list a large box of fabric FS.

*Focus on canning, freezing and preserving garden and CSA foods for winter.

*Pick 40 lb of blueberries and freeze them.

*Cheap entertainment: our pool! :D Yay! Also trying to hack out a few trails through our woods until sweaty and exhausted, then returning to jump in the pool. Picking wild raspberries (we picked and ate several pints yesterday, a good few hours' entertainment, we are lucky enough to have huge stands of raspberry vines all over our property).

*Back to Not Buying It/Compacting. Although I haven't bought much that hasn't been strictly necessity or some need of the kids (like stuff for Katie's camp), I haven't always been as careful as I can be with the non-necessary items, to get them free or used. Mainly because of poor planning. An example is Katie's riding boots and pants. I could have found them cheaper somehow, at a garage sale, out of the trader, or from an acquaintance, if only I had planned a bit better and been looking for them in the Spring. I'm still weighing every decision carefully but sometimes have bought new anyway. I'm going to read up a bit on Compacting and try to go back to making lists of things that are "wants" and setting that list aside instead of acting on it instantly.

*Related to that, I need to do back to school as cheaply as possible. The kids are pretty much set as far as early school clothes, while it's still warm, but I need to start thinking about winter clothes again! Ugh! I would like to go thrifting a few times once school starts. I hate that everything is such a far drive. :( Every thrift store is 30 min to 1.5 hrs away in different directions! And I rarely find decent kids' clothes in the bigger sizes. (Related to that maybe we should start a back to school ISO thread...?)

*Birthdays. Going to try to do this as cheaply as possible. My suggestion to K that the pool be their main present was actually received quite well. I am going to take herc's advice and get them each a small Playmobil set as well. I will let Katie save for her bike and Jake will get his when she gets hers. Right now I'm thinking we'll wait until the first weekend in May when Earl's has that bike swap, unless she's just dying for one immediately and has enough money...I figure we'll visit Earl's to look at styles/sizes when we pick Matt up from the airport on Saturday. I think that will help us decide what to do and give us a price point for her saving.

Sounds great :D What size do you need for J? We have 6's, 7's and some 8's that are all outgrown :)

Really? Cool. I got called away before I could start an ISO thread...

J is in a size 7x, possibly an 8 would fit, but 7s are too short. He's a true 7x LOL.

Pantry challenge - eat from pantry, freezer, and garden as much as possible.

Clean and declutter room by room, whether we move or not.

If we are moving, this list will get to be 2 pages long.

ETA: We are moving. I need to declutter. The same magnitude of decluttering our dear Jodi just did. Whee. I don't think I'll have the house ready to sell till Halloween between the minor repairs, painting, landscaping, decluttering, and packing. :joker:

Hey Lauren,

Sorry for the hijack, but I thought you might see this thread sooner.:waving:

It would be great to meet up with you on Sat. I don't think we have anything big planned. I'll pm you my number and we can figure something out. :)

I am working on this, too.

I have taken 2 small loads of scrap metal to the local yard. I have to do it in small loads as I have the baby with me. Naturally, we are already doing other errands, so I am not, in any way making an isolated trip to recycle the scrap.

I also put out 3 large loads of stuff at the curb - including broken tile, paint, kids desk and chair, etc. Basically, anything that I didn't need or want and that I felt okay with giving away for free. A lot of it got taken.

What didn't get taken- x-mas tree, outdoor christmas decorations, etc. I donated to the recyling center's "free" area. :)

What else? Oh, I had about 30 diapers with SHOT elastic. My ds would poop and it would usually run down his leg. I sold them for $2.00 each (some $1.50 each) and they are GONE. Gave away some holey prefolds, too. :D

Sold my serger. Haven't used it but once or twice in 4 years. I think it's time to move it on. Sold it cheap which felt good as it's helping someone else afford one.

Also sold a gift card for Hearthsong - honestly my kids don't need anything.

With all this extra paypal, I bought my son some GOOD diapers yesterday - mostly that were "washed only" condition. So, that feels good. He really, really needed them.

Remind me to post the picture of him with the pink towel snappi'd on him from this morning. So cute. But, desperate times call for pink towels.

Have not bought any groceries in 10 days except for 2 bunches of bananas and 1 cantelope. Using up what I have onhand. That is nice!

We still have not used the AC yet this year - although it's been rough this week.

The dishwasher quit working, but my SO was able to get it fixed - so that was a good score!!!

I think that's it. Thanks for reading.

Will edit with the photo in a minute!!

Garrett's with the X, so I haven't had to spend any money entertaining him. Not that he asks for a lot, but you know what I mean. I would at least be doing the pool once a week and maybe the Children's Museum, too.

Waiting on the new dipes, so here is a backup - a pink towel. :D

I'm starting to feel really good again, so I need to get my butt back in gear.

**declutter/pack away things we're not using so that the house shows better

** sew the kids "fall" clothes so I don't have to buy anything

** make the babe's wool soakers so I don't spend a fortune on those (I think I have 3 so far - need at least 3 more in newborn, then larger sizes).

** plan our Christmas. I bought 3 presents (plus part of a birthday gift) at Target today for $10. I want to make most of everyone's though (including extended family).

** really sit down and make a budget. We've gotten a couple weeks behind on stuff, and I need to figure out how to get us back on track.

** cancel the unnecessary "frills". Try to get our other bills down.

I'd like to get pants cut out for my youngest son. I'm hoping to make most of his pants this year.

I just had to buy my oldest shoes. I bought him athletic shoes and soccer cleats. This is the first year I've bought him cleats. I've been cheap in the past, but I think they will really help him.

I also got him running/athletic shoes since he has been running with me 1 day per week. I really wanted him to have good shoes. I feel kind of guilty about that $58 total, but he'll at least pass the cleats on to his brother.

Otherwise, I'd like to delutter more and save $600. I'm not sure if I can though. That will be a stretch.

ETA: I bought Smoochies birthday gift this month and got a free item if I ordered a specific dollar amount. So, I got her Christmas and Hannukah gift too. :)
