:vent: I'm helping the enviroment . It is 92 in the house. We have these huge windows on the south side of the house and it gets so incredibly hot here.

We live on the third floor so I wouldn't be able to function in my place without ac! We were just outside in 92 degree heat for about 20 minutes and I was sweating a lot.

Too bad we couldn't have magiced up some money to fly you out here for the party yesterday. The water in the pool was so blessedly cool :D Last night I was cool enough that the 80 degree thermometer didn't bother me.

I bet those southern windows are sweet in the winter, though!

When we did not have AC (and I was preggo at a time) we used to go hang out at the nearest mall, just so we could cool off. Could this be a possibility for you?

Want another good thing? You are losing weight (only good is if it is what you want though) cuz you eat less and sweat more :D

{{{hugs}}} I completely understand. We had an entire bay of windows on a south facing wall at our old apartments. It was WONDERFUL in the winter becuase we could get light etc... but in the summer... we lived in a dry greenhouse. Luckily they openned... If we were careful, we could close the curtians at around 11 am (we double the curtians and put pull down shades outside too), and then we would be in the dark, but it was cooler. The next house we lived in, we had even more windows, but NONE openned. That was hell in the summer! We were litterally never home because it was cooler to be outside in the heat than at home in the house! I feel ya mama!

We've not used the AC at all this year.

We have been without air all summer. Open all the windows at night and put fans facing in the house in all of them but one to help pull cool air in. At daybreak, close ALL the windows and blinds and curtains and place blankets over the windows that get hottest. If you can, cover the window on the outside with foil or cardboard. Then at night again, when it is cooler outside than in, open everything back up. Keep the fans running in the rooms you are in as it helps you feel cooler. Go find a kid pool on clearance and spend from 4 til 7 in it in the shade. Get a separate one for the kids unless you like being splashed and pounced on.

Do not cook anything inside. Do all cooking outside or eat only cold meals. I have a toaster oven and grill outside. I make sun tea. Coffee is the only thing made in the house. It is turned off immediately upon brewing. No TV, no computer monitors on unless in use. No lights in the day time unless your blankets on the windows block all light. Ours don't.

I am a little late joining in but... in a way, that's good. Here it is, just 2 weeks after a big "heat wave" and we all lived to tell the tale. It got up in the '90's and humid and all the the kids moaned and groaned about not having "even a window air conditioner!" when all of their friends had central air... wah wah wah. Whiney teenagers just make it that much easier to stick to my guns and not use a.c. We live in Michigan and it gets "too hot" maybe 3 times a year, if that. The rest of the time, it's fine.
