This isn't actually done. I need to add the outer border and get it quilted but it was supposed to be the first of a series of quilts I'm making for our family to use throughout the wheel of the year and the goal/deadline was today so I HAD to put it on the bed today and figured I'd force y'all to share. :p
Theme for the holiday is First Harvest so I thought this would be perfect. I-Spy fruits and veggie squares are from the Farmer's Market quilt square swap we did here awhile back with a few extra thrown in since I needed to make it a king size. I thought the borders kind of give the produce the impression of being in baskets. The outer border is a deep brown just to finish it off. Can't decide if I'm going to tie it or quilt around the squares. I offset the squares on purpose so its not straight lines otherwise I'd definately have my mother throw it up on her new quilting machine and finish it that way.

Lovely!
I'm a sucker for hand-quilting so I say pull out the needle and thread and get busy

AWESOME!!! Have you ever meandered, or will your mother's quilting machine meander (can you tell I have no idea of the capability of quilting machines?)? I prefer quilted to tied - not sure why, since the quilt on our bed is tied and I love that one... but I didn't make it. When I make them, I prefer to quilt. And I am not nearly as patient as Dannielle, so I use my sewing machine. :D

Yeah, its pretty cool. Its the Grace one that isn't quite a long arm-- you just use a regular sewing machine and its mounted to an armature over the bed where the quilt sits. It'll swivel around, go back and forth etc.
I prefer quilted to tied by a long shot too, but I'm feeling pressured with the baby coming so soon and we are going to be short bedding when winter arrives since dh and I only have 2 blankets that fit the bed.

That is awesome! I can't wait to see all of your quilts for the wheel of the year. What a fantastic idea!

LOL! If I were patient (or brave) I might venture beyond little quilts. I can't honestly say I'd be hand-quilting a king sized quilt. Although I've come to really love the look of hand-quilting. Besides, most of the quilts I've made include hand-embroidery so quilting by hand just seems to match. Truth be told, I'm really just scared to death of getting puckers on the back if I were to machine quilt. ;)

I'd be all for it if I could guarantee sewing time and knew that I could get it out with any sort of timeliness.

I love it. Whether to tie or stitch depends on how much you love it... and how much you love to stitch.
