I hear good things about it. How do your kids feel about it?

Do you find that you buy more expensive stuff since there's less to buy? Do you find yourself "supplementing" with little things after all?

I'm trying to get a feel for whether I want to go this route. :)

We sorta do. We do "Santa brings you three things". This is due to the 3 gifts of the wise men as well as limited space available in Santa's sleigh lol.

They also get a couple/few things from us as well.

we do the same as danielle - they get 3 from santa on christmas morning. on christmas eve, they exchange with each other (we take them to the dollar tree so they can pick anything). dh and i usually get them one or two for christmas eve too.

We have a small Christmas with just our core family....and there are only 3 gifts. We do stockings too....that's where it needs to be cut back. The kids do fine with the 3 gifts. This year, I *think* we are going to WDW....so I think each child will only get 1 larger present. A sewing machine and a drum set??

3 gifts for X-mas? I am not familiar with this. But what we do is Santa brings each kid one present, and then each family member gets one gift for each other. Since we are a family of 6, it means that each person gets 5 presents each, plus one from Santa, plus a stocking. We all really enjoy shopping for each other and helping the younger ones shop. And sometimes the presents are used or homemade. It is not monetary value that counts, but thoughtfulnes. Make x-mas full of meaning and NOT stressful.

We don't do that on purpose, but it usually works out that way...one frivolous thing, one educational thing, and one..I can't remember, lol! But when we are making our lists, and balancing out, it works out to be about 3 each, and it's best that way. That's for the kids. For the adults, we just do one each. :)

ive never heard of the 3 gifts thing either. but we give one present to each child (3 children) and my husband and i have a rule that we cant spend more than $10 on each other.

We have been doing one big gift, a good stocking, and an experience gift for the last year. (birthdays are one big gift, and one experience gift) My children have gotten horse back riding hours, gotten to go clam digging and this is just for their birthdays. They love it! So we are going to continue with this tradition if we can. It has been great for last Christmas and this set of birthdays. :)

I have three girls, 7, 5 and 3 and a baby boy, who wasn't born yet last Christmas. My children get so much from the relatives Christmas really turns into gluttony for our children and I hate it. We try to be thoughtful about what we get them. We did three gifts this past year but we didn't stick to the Something you want, something you need, something to read. We just got them each three things. They do a lot of comparing so we got them similar things in the categories. One fun toy that they asked for (this was from Santa), one fun game, and one pretty nightgown (they love the frilly girly nightgowns) and we got them a group gift of something we wanted for them (we do this every year and this year it was wood blocks, this is also from Santa).
