I want to feed him super healthy! I am not planning to feed him meat.

I tried yogurt and eggs a few times each, and he hates them. Spits them out. Does not like soy or rice milk.

He tried some organic cheese cubes last week and did not like those, either.

He doesn't like tofu so far.

So, that narrows things down a bit. ;)

This week he loves beans and rice - last week he did not.

Last week he hated quinioa - in the past he has loved it.

Rice cakes with almond butter are no long eaten, either.

He's always game for anything with bread, pasta and potatoes.

Any suggestions?

what about steamed or mashed yellow veggies? butternut squash, yams, carrots?
frozen blueberreies are great highchair food in summer

soups? veggie soups? split pea? purreed soups like butternut squash..., pumpkin...I always purree green veggies into my split pea soup easy to hide. I make my veggie soups tomato based and everyone seems to like it better that way.lentil soups? In knoiw soup seems strange for his age, but my kids always managed it...even if they got messy.
would he eat refried beans rolled up in a whole grain tortilla?
avocado by itself or used as a spread on bread, craker, rice cake?
sauteed zucchini in olive oil...
hummus with things to dip in it? or just hummus on cracker, bread, or on his fingers, on a spoon? any bean dip is yummy really.

I would say just keep offering what you are eating for meals with your family and he will catch up.

hmmm....

W is 10 months old so a little younger and I just feed him what we are eating. He really likes sweet potato fries (sweet potatos cut like fries and baked until tender), steamed broccoli, steamed baby carrots, apple slices, pretty much anything he can get in his own hand and mouth.

If he's eating beans and rice, he's getting protein. So you don't need so much to worry about cheese and tofu.

Is it dippable stuff? For whatever reason my kids won't eat beans with a fork and spoon, but they will eat red beans from a can, rinsed and drained on a plate, where they can dip each individual bean in a mix of oil/vinegar/spice/ pepper/ salt/pesto-- some mixure thereof, depending on what's on hand. Or chickpeas dipped one by one in ketchup and mustard arranged artistically, salt and pepper in mounds. It is pretty good, come to think of it.

Or baked tofu sticks, or potato sticks. or fish sticks. If they think it's an appetizer, they are willing to eat some pretty strange stuff. Little dipping bowls help, too. They like hardware. Maybe your kid will like hardware, too.

rice balls, apple sticks, carrot sticks, celery sticks, grated cheese in a mound, but not cheese sticks-

apples dipped in ritualistically messed with yogurt- like, they have to see me stir in the "special medicine" ( probiotics) and sprinkle cinnamon on top- otherwise it won't get eaten. Witch doctor mumbo jumbo really seems to show I care.

BlueRose has a thread, with pictures, about using cafeteria trays to feed her daughter. The pictures are magazine quality. I got some trays, and it really does help, picturing different things going into the squares and circles. The trays are at Target, and they sell bowls, too. "The greatest pleasure this week" or something like that, is the thread name. I am sorry that I don't know how to link to it.

Martha Stewart kids and babies, has really good ideas. An embarassing amount of what I've written is from her magazine.

good luch.

Thank you everyone! I so appreciate it!

We have a victory this week - he has ALWAYS hated bananas and now he eats lots of them. He also tried some avocado (usually hates this, too).

What else? Oh, yes we always do sweet potato fries and he usually loves those. Steamed broccoli - yes, steamed carrots - so, so.

Soups - yes, I do make those for him and they go over really well!

I tried eggs 2 more times and he did eat a little. Still not thrilled with them, though.

The yogurt I haven't tried again just yet.

Thank you again.

I will keep referring to this thread when I need help! :)
