I have TWO boxes of Garrett's school papers.

I know I NEED to go through them.

I keep procrastinating.

Anyone ever do this?

Tips!? :D

Please!

Be alone (do while everybody is asleep, or at school or something)

Dig out your favorite music.

Put the earphones on.

Do it on the floor.

Have a garbage can / recycle bin right there, so you can just throw what needs to be thrown right away.

Pull the drawers where the "needed" stuff goes out and set them next to you.

Ready. Set. Go!

We had boxes and boxes of Chris's (dh's) school papers to go through. If it helps to motivate you, think about how much Garrett and his future SO will not want to deal with boxes and boxes of papers. :)

When we went through Chris's stuff, we kept maybe 5-6 things that were especially cool/neat.

If I were you, I would keep a few pieces of art, a few pieces of writing, but really I wouldn't keep math papers, spelling papers or worksheets--there generally isn't anything sentimental about them.

We *ARE* glad to have the few things of Chris's we kept, and it was fun looking at some of his papers, but I just couldn't imagine holding onto all that stuff for so many years (Chris was 32 when we went through it, so she (mil) had kept BOXES stuff of 25 years!).

Sit down with a digital camera (or even a film camera) and take pictures of the important ones. Keep them on a CD (or in a photo album) and it takes up much less space, but you can visit them any time :)

I have one large note book, and then 5 smaller ones for Alex (he is in 6th grade) and one large one for Cyan with 1 small one (she is going into 1st grade). Each of these are labeled with "preschool" and then the grade they were in. I box their papers, making sure to put dates on things I paticularly like, and then at the end of the year (or sometimes in the middle of the year if the box gets full) I add those things to the notebooks.

The boxes that I keep them in are in the garage. When I want to go through them, I take the boxes out, have the recycle bin right next to me, and I go through... being pretty brutal because I have done it 6 years in a row (at least... I started when Alex was 3, he's 11 now) and then punching holes in them and putting them in the notebooks.

Sometimes (if we got it that year) I put the school class picture and the kids school picture on the outside of the binder/notebook and I always mark it with the year and what grade they were in.

Yep, Val ! My 2 older boys are going to be 11 in Aug and 6 in Sept respectively. My b/g twins were the 2 biggest surprises of my life ! My aunts who are my father's sisters are twins and none of my many( more than 50) cousins have twins just me !:drop: :help:
