Here's a little info. Baby was born 5 weeks premature, in the NICU for 10 days, intubated, etc.He was born 6-13, came home at 7 even, but then dropped back to6-13 and stayed that way for over 3 weeks. Saw a LC and she "approved" our nursing (LOL), went back a few days later and he had gained basically 1oz per day. He's continuted that since pretty much. He's had cronic nasal congestion and we thought colic. He was referred to the ENT today who said he thinks he has reflux. He put him on zantax (sp) and told me to elimated dairy. He said to have no milk, cheese, or butter but I could have yogurt. Also I did some research and it's saying no choc, acidic beverages and fruits, etc. I'm confused about where to start I guess. I realized that all my meals for this week have cheese so I have to rethink, but do I need to worry about the beverages, fruits, etc or just the dairy? He also thinks that he has laryngeal malacia which now that I'm home I can't remember exactly what he was saying and I'm finding it hard to find info on that. We are going back in one month and they'll put a scope down the throat to see and then possibly have to do another one in the hospital. I'd appreciate any advice. Oh, they also said I needto hold him upright for 30 m inutes after he eats and currently he's waking about every 2 hours at night and I'm already sleep deprived so feeling a little stressed about having to sit up and dothat verses just getting him latched on and going back to sleep(LOL)
thanks

my twins both have reflux. they are both on .7 mL twice a day. when they were younger babies, Jackson's was *terrible*. He had to be held upright for 20-30 minutes after every feeding.

few tips ;) swing! thats sitting upright! bouncy seat! also, sitting upright ;) recliner if you have one. you can both sleep, but he is upright.

At the time I didnt have the brain power to think of those ideas LOL so i would prop myself up on pillows in bed and lean back with Jack on my chest and fall back to sleep. He was still mostly upright and i was able to rest.

Jackson also has chronic nasal congestion as well. Both babies have RAD (reactive airway disease). They both get breathing treatments twice a day on normal healthy days, or more often when they are sick. It helps ALOT!

You may ask your ped about that. Also, a humidifier. May help the congestion. Sounds to me like he has so much congestion that ts aking him naseous and he is spitting up as opposed to vomitting. Just a theory, could be way off.

Anyway, keep us updated!!! Your little Issac is so handsome!! :)

Thanks so much! He's on .6 right now. I thought of the swing and bouncy, but honestly wondered if those were upright position enough. I do have a recliner and I have been getting up out of bed and feeding him in the recliner and holding him the time after. He doesn't spit up, maybe once a day if that so honestly I really didn't think about reflux. He's just so fussy and it's really exhausting:( He also believes he has chronic rhinitis which my daughter has and both my kids had mild asthma, so I guess we'll see what happens. I'm having a tough time not having dairy, b/c I'm assuming he means at all so I'm nixing premix stuff that has it listed. I also read that I should not drink soda's acidic things etc, but he didn't mention that at all so I don't know what to do.

You eating acidic stuff probably won't aggrivate his reflux, but potentially allergenic foods will. Babies don't have to spit up to have reflux either. The only thing that helped Katy was eliminating all of her allergens. She is allergic to milk, soy, corn, eggs and oranges. I found all of this out by paying close attention to what I ate. I started with dairy first and saw improvement then added soy to make up for dairy and the reflux returned, so off soy too. Dr. Sears says that colic is caused by mil, soy, or wheat in mom's diet. What color is his poop?

Thanks for the advice! His poop is mostly a greenish color I'd say (LOL)What color is his poop?

That could be from oversupply of milk. Are you really full and does it come out fast? This can cause reflux and green poop as well as gas. Green poop can also be indicative of food allergies. There are ways to treat both of these and make your life and his a whole lot easier.
