So dh actually applied for that job I mentioned a month or so ago. The applications close Monday - nothing like the last minute, eh? ;)

However, the poor guy is just fraught with anxiety over the possible transition. And not to assume he's going to get it just because he applied, but I'm sure he's one of the top contenders because he has just the experience they want and he's a very dynamic person - he's a total charmer in interviews. So there is a strong possibility he'll get it. It sounds like he's excited about the possibility of a new job, and about leaving teaching, but also super worked up about the potential change. Just because change itself can be hard, and this will be his first "real" job ever (he's never worked in an office or anything! just waited tables, managed a cafe, and taught).

Although my writing is doing well, and I'm sure that within a year or two I'll be making a good amount of money every month, it's still small beans. It takes so much time to get clients, get assignments, get paid for magazine articles - it's crazy. The lag time between when I do the work and when I get paid is very long! So building up clips and assignments is this slow, arduous process. I'm finally building a bit of momentum, though.

So this job would instantly catapult us from "How do we pay all these bills every month?" to "The bills are paid, we have everything we need, what should we do with this extra?" If we added my eventual earnings onto that, we could end up tripling our current yearly income within a year or two. :drop: That would mean so much - it would mean paying off all our debt quickly, paying off our cars, paying down our mortgage if we want, and saving for college and retirement. We've never been able to do all that.

However...it's scary! We've lived on the margins for so long...would we go crazy with more money? When we had our chunk from selling our house, dh went nutso with buying stuff...a guitar and telescope that rarely get used, for example. Would we fritter away all the extra quite easily? I still don't feel like we have the discipline or financial maturity I'd like us to have (the way we slid into debt already last year was a wake-up call for me on that front!). Will more money make us any happier? Probably not.

So I have been trying to encourage dh to think about this job, money aside - does he want it? He says yes.

Whew. If you made it this far, thank you! I'm asking for vibes...that dh gets an interview, that he feels calmer and more centered about the whole process. Thank you! :hbeat:

Good vibes for you (both for the job and the money stuff--I can relate to that scared feeling).

Good luck to him and all of you.

Dh and I are both educators though so I must say that teaching is a real job. One of the most difficult yet rewarding jobs we have ever had.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you guys! Just make sure that you have a plan for all the extra money so it doesn't slip through your fingers. I'm also really fascinated by your writing - do you mainly write magazine articles? Any links? :)

Oh, believe me, I know it is! My mom's a teacher too. That's why I put it in quotes. I just meant an office-type job. It has been the same for him - incredibly difficult yet incredibly rewarding. But, he thinks he is ready to move on, for now, if this opportunity feels right as he gets further into the process.
