so what can I hand sew or make that would only take about a week start to finish? Yesterday I made a curtain for the bathroom window - only 37" L and 28" W - that took all day of start and stop. I don"t need any more curtains now  but my hands feel rather bored....
I was thinking about either a teapot cover or maybe a small doll for DD, but I"m almost afraid she would destroy it before it gets much love from her iykwim ;) Is there a technique I could use for stronger stitching to make a doll? All the sewing I"ve ever done has been by machine, so this aspect is kinda new to me. TIA!

Do you know how to do a chain stitch? A chain stitched seam is much stronger than a running stitch. Backstitch is stronger than running too, but not as strong as chain.

Danielle, you had an embroidery tutorial up on Flickr, didn't you? I'll have to look that up again. I've never done chain stitch. Would it need to be longer/skinnier than usual for a seam? Or does that matter? I'll need to practice anyway, since I have quilts I want to make once the kids are older. Practice keeping the stitches just about the same length and distance, which is one reason I did the curtain yesterday.
Julie, if only I were closer! :) My SIL on the other side of town has offered her machine until my nephew is born next month. I may take her up on it while mine is being looked at if they have to keep it overnight or something.
