Are you planting your fall/winter garden? What are you planting?

This is my first year with any sort of garden. I'm going a little crazy with it since my tomatoes are doing so well. :help: I've planted some herbs in our Kitchen window box and I started some mesculin lettuce mix in a pot last week.

I'm looking at starting some plants for my fall garden. I'm thinking I will try cabbage, brussels sprouts, kale, two types of bush peas, broccoli, cauliflower, and romaine lettuce. I'm doing all my gardening in containers since I'm not sure how much longer we will be living at this place. (The owner is selling it. :( ) So I will only be doing a few of each of these veggies.

Has anyone tried any of these veggies in containers? How did they fare?

I don't know much about container winter gardening, but I do put all of those things in except the broc and coliflower for my garden in the winter. I just put them right in the ground and they fare ok... when it is going to freeze I put a cover of leaves, or clear plastic over them with 12 inch stakes and rocks to hold it down. That is all I have ever done, and I always have lettuce at least all winter long. When the weather gets colder (around Sept here), I also put in cilantro.

Best of luck!

I haven't done any winter gardening, but I've been thinking about trying. I may use some of your suggestions! I'll be doing containers too (our back yard is SO tiny, no room for a garden!) so maybe we should check in occasionally and see how we're doing. :)

we'll be planting lettuces, spinach, cabbage after our summer stuff is done. just pull out the plants and replant. we should be able to harvest until the snow starts :) I have no idea about doing it in containers though. good luck!
