i was thinking about that and wondering if it would take the dye? so many of them i see have ribbon and lace - that wouldnt take the dye would it?

Depends. Some of the less expensive gowns are polyester. The nicer ones are cotton, but they run $100+
I found JB's "tux" on ebay, but it was poly (satin).
And - black dye so often doesn't take or won't take evenly. I'd hate to risk it.
Just out of curiosity - what on earth does she need a black baptismal gown for?

I'm in the midst of helping a friend make a christening gown. We're using the dress pattern from the KwikSew for Babies book and tweaking/lengthening it.
