he was on my tomato plant...way up high, like eye level for me (i'm 5'4") on the end of a leaf stalk.
he was just over 3" long and as fat as a marker.
he was also quite RUDE (note the poke on the end of his bum...)
he is no longer with us  ahem. he met the business end of my scissors...

A tomato caterpillar. We used to kill them too, drown them in soapy water I think. In fact, we would just go out and pick them off the plants there were so many.
What I want to know is what are the black flies that are destroying my tomatoes and how do I get rid of them??

Oh that image of Meeshi in overalls with hay comin' outta her mouth. :hahaha: What a hoot.
I'm glad we have NONE of 'dem critters 'round these parts. :p
I did, however, find a rather drunk bee trying to fly around my maters.

They are hornworms. You want to get rid of them cause they will cut stems off your plants and get BIG! PS they don't come off that easy so wear gloves!
am I the only one who thinks this caterpillar is cute?
could you maybe catch them all in a jar and wait for them to turn into butterflies?
Don't mind my ignorance, I have a fondness for most bugs.
Then again, I am not growing tomatoes at the moment.

I thought it was a given..you grow tomatoes, you get hornworms!! Everytime WE ever grew tomatoes, we got them!! I can't remember what we did with them..something gruesome, I am sure. :shake:
