Anyone ever try growing pole or runner beans up the outside branches of a weeping willow tree? We don't trim the willow, so the there are plenty of places where branches touch the ground to run some beans up it.

I've had volunteer pumpkins grow out of the compost pile and climb that tree before. It just occurred to me that since I don't mow under it (it's one of native areas, but it's mostly low growers) that the fall beans might like the tree, so long as they're in the sun.

So, am I crazy? Don't answer that. Rather, is this particular idea crazy?

For that matter, would it be wrong to run lines all up the swingset like a tent, and not let the kids use it for about 100 days? :p

Do bunnies like beans? We have a bunny family that live under the willow's roots. Maybe I could share with them.

to my knowledge, our yard bunnies have not eaten any of our beans...but our bean and pea harvest has been "cute" if anything at all. like...a handful a day at most. certainly not even one serving much less enough for the family.

i think the willow would work well, not sure i'd skank the swingset though...

Talked myself out of it. I remembered how much that tree sways in storms. It would pull up the beans by the roots if a good wind started blowing.
