These planning posts are always fun. :)
Next year I'll be doing Ambleside Online year 1 with Jonah and Ruthie listening in. They'll continue with Horizons 1 and Explode the Code- Jonah is in book 6 now and Ruthie's in book 2. She's not as ambitious as he is, though, and doesn't feel the workbook love like he does so I don't anticipate that she'll go through them with the speed that Jonah does.
Ambleside online includes music, Bible, poetry and art. At some point I'll probably get Sonlight's science K, too. I think that's all we'll be doing.

I was just going to make a post like this.
History Children's Enc of American History
We will be studying up to the Civil War. I will use supplemental readers from WP and Simply CM website.
LA- Queen's Home school for both boys
ETC
Italic and HWT
Spectrum Spelling
Science 106 Days of Creation Study from SCM
Then I am going to add in some poetry, music, artists and foreign language.
We do our Bible study at night with dh and will also do scripture memory.
I think that is it so far.

We're still in the middle of our year; we switch "grades" in January which is 4 months late for my oldest and 8 months early for my youngest. I thought I'd answer anyway since I've been in the midst of planning, and I'm changing some things around. We will take a break from focused learning in August, and resume grade 2 in September.
Reading: We're using The Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading. We pretty much delay academics until age 7, so my youngest is just now learning to read, whereas my 8YO is pretty much at grade level but has become a guesser (originally taught using whole word methods) so I decided he could use the phonics as well. We also use sight word rings and word family flip books, and lots of easy readers and the classic early reading books such as Frog and Toad.
Humanities: according to our Enki books we should be working with sages (saints and heroes for the Waldorf users) as our main story curriculum, while immersing ourselves in the culture of each sage. The boys don't like what we've done so far, so I've ditched it for now. We're just reading to the boys a lot; Little House books, the Eragon series, books by Isabel Wyatt, Greek mythology, etc. In January we'll start with creation myths from around the world (we usually segue into each grade slowly using the Enki/Waldorf main lesson ideas).
Language Arts: I'm pulling more and more from the Christopherus Living Language book.
History: This gets tied in with the story curriculum, so exploring creation myths we'll also immerse ourselves in each culture for a couple of months and explore the history of each culture. We'll probably just use library books unless we find a top notch secular history program.
Math: We use Enki stories and methods, lots of manipulatives, and Kumon workbooks. I'm not sure what we'll use for grade 3.
Science: We tend to unschool science. The reality is that in the younger grades the boys get so much science just by observing their world and asking questions. We do read nature stories and we try to draw some of what we see on hikes and nature walks. We have a garden as well, which is a big science experiment in itself.
Music: Both boys are learning ukulele. We may or may not take up recorder again; they're just not that into it. We listen to music a lot, play with instruments, and sing all the time. Depending on other things, DS#1 may start piano this fall.
Arts and crafts: I'm just about to teach the boys to knit; we've read an Enki knitting story and have started making our needles. The boys do all kinds of art; painting (various types), drawing (pencil and crayon), modeling, oil pastels, and a lot of paper crafting. We'll be working more from Learning About the World Through Modeling. For multicultural arts and crafts I really like Art From Many Hands.
Foreign Language: We have Sonrisas Spanish School, but haven't really gotten into it yet. I'll probably get going with it again in September, if the boys are interested.
Handwriting: They just write as they feel inspired, and write sentences and verses to go with their pictures. I'll probably focus more composition in grade 3.
We're really eclectic learners; we use holistic methods with an integrated curriculum approach, we have a strong unschooling/child-led component, and we occasionally turn to classical education to fill in the gaps.

Our school year goes from July 1 to June 30th, year round, so we're just getting started (a little early at the insistance of my oldest, who got bored with being home without a "plan") with our 2007-2008 school year.
We're using:
Winterpromise Animal Worlds with older kids pack and without the K-1st activities
First Language Lessons
Math U See (and tons of math-based story books, math games, and worksheets)
Those are already moving along.
In September, we will start Noeo Bio 1 as a co-op with friends. In January, we'll add Story of the World 1 with activities. We've read SOTW 1 before, but are doing it again with the coordinating projects and some friends to share the learning.
We do Mandarin through our Chinese school weekly, the kids swim weekly through YMCA for PE as well as playing some sort of seasonal sport or having homeschool PE days. Em will do Pianimals this year for piano lessons and we'll do music appreciate via cd's.
That's it for the year, I guess, except for the myriad of library books we explore and the countless field trips and museum jaunts we'll take.

Joshua is a "first and a half grader" meaning he finished K in Dec. Most of what we will be doing is advanced first grade stuff. I expect him to fly through the math as part of it is a repeat.
Math: Modern Curriculum Press Math A/Singapore 1B
Science: WinterPromise Animals and Their Worlds (also includes Bible, Literature, Arts and Crafts). We do have the combined preK-2nd and up package, but will do some of the Animal Art, no Alphabet Art.
Social Studies: My casual addition to the AW habitat study, to include map/globe study and stories from around the world, as well as Wee Sing around the world tape.
Reading/Language Arts: WinterPromise LA1
Electives (as desired): God Made Music 1, I Can Do All Things Art, Chess: A Knight's First Moves (from WP)

This year will be way different for us, as I've always used abeka in the past.
The Mystery of History vol.1
Christian Kids Explore Earth and Space Science
Spellling from the Institute for Excellence
Math U See (Alpha for Sarah and Epsilon for Brooke) --I expect both of them to fly through these and move on to the next level.
Easy Grammar 6 w/ Daily Grams for Brooke
Brooke will read from the library instead of actual readers
Sarah will use Abeka for
Language, Phonics, and Reading
Did I forget anything?
We're doing Trisms Explorers and Inventors in a co-op. We're just using it as a guideline, really. The whole thing is more middle school level, but it's a fun way to overview history if we do a light version. Also co-oping La Clase Divertida and an art thing (art's not really my area, and I honestly can't remember the name).
Singapore math for the oldest and maybe the middle one IFF he seems ready for workbooks. He just doesn't sit still well. Or read. But he's pretty advanced with the math, and I'm not sure how to place him. He's far more interested in discussing concepts and working things out in his head, and it's obviously working so far. Not sure I'll change that. Unschooling math really seems to work for him
Probably LLATL for the boys. Patrick seems ok with what we've tried so far - a miracle, to be sure. And Dylan's a real self-starter (guess he takes after Daddy), so he'll do whatever I put in front of him before I'm even done cooking breakfast.
Rowan will mostly just be a kid. I'd like her to reliably be able to count past 100, add numbers larger than 5, and know all her letters by the end of next year. I don't really think that will require much beyond just reading, cooking, playing games, and talking together. If she decides she wants to read, we'll learn that, too.
As far as science, we're co-oping R.E.A.L. Life Science with the neighbor friends. Or maybe physical science. I have both, and I just haven't decided which to do.
Rowan and Patrick want to take homeschool gymnastics (it's a homeschool class because it's in the early afternoon and it's co-ed). Might sign D up for homeschool P.E. at the Y, or I might just drag him out for walks and jogs.

Let's see.. so far I have planned:
Saxon for math
Easy Grammar 56
Alpha Omega Lifepac 5 for science (we didn't get very far last year)
Reading: I have some books and teacher guides from Scholastic to work on comprehension which we'll alternate with other books of her chosing.
Social Studies: Some books from Scholastic (that $1 sale last month was helpful)
Music: piano lessons and band at the public school
My dd2 is asking to go back to public school. Her reasons are purely social. However I feel she has too much to work on before she can go back (we pulled her out to help her catch up, so we're planning on her going back eventually - we think LOL). I made a deal with her: If she works hard this summer and she's where we feel she needs to be, she can go back. However if she doesn't work or isn't where we want her, she'll be home at least another year.

I think we're going to start next week... we've been on "break" since mid-May, and we're all getting antsy and on each other's nerves. :)
Justin is 6 1/2, so he's "first grade" I guess.
-Finishing 100 Easy Lessons and then moving onto Beyond the Code.
-Miquon Math, I have the first two workbooks and the Cuisenaire Rods.
-SOTW Volume 1
Then aside from that, we'll do some unit studies (starting with dinosaurs, and then doing Germany). We'll also go to the Homeschool Days at the science museum about 90 miles north of us. We'll do PE through our homeschool group in the fall, and I think swimming lessons next month.
Rebecca is 4 and we'll be doing FIAR (Justin can do that too), and working on learning letters and numbers.
Plus I still have to look through the Rainbow Resource catalog and see what else I want!! This time of year is so exciting! :D

Well, my situation is a bit different as my kids are in public school and then I afterschool my oldest. He will be in 3rd grade in the fall and we will be doing the following at home
-Saxon 65
-continuing with WP Sea & Sky(started it at the beginning of June)
-computer programming with my dh
-anything else that strikes his fancy that he wants to learn about
(we spend about 30 minutes each day M-F doing homeschool activities, usually of his choosing)

Still figuring it out, but I think this is the plan:
Tucker (6 in September):
Mystery of History (we're doing this over 2 years, so we're entering year #2 of it)
Apologia Astronomy (again, doing it over 2 years, entering year #2)
Horizons 1 Math
First Language Lessons and Abeka 2 Language Arts
Spelling Power
Prima Latina (spread this one out over 2 years as well; doing year 2)
Art - Abeka 2 and Draw Write Now (and hopefully some private art lessons if we can find the $ for it)
Heroes of the Bible
Uncommon Courtesy for Kids
Co-op this year is doing music, writing, health & safety, spanish, and PE.
Griffin (4 in September) will do HWOT and 100 EZ Lessons; also will be joining Tucker in "Heroes of the Bible" and "Uncommon Courtesy for Kids"

I've got lots of things planned for this year. Planned. :) We'll see what really happens as the year goes on.
Oldest dd is in 11th grade this year! Holy hell. She has a full schedule load, a class at the local community college, and her normal volunteer work that she does for the Leader's Group at the YMCA. She's going to be one busy girl. Plus she has her PSAT and her SAT test this year. I need a vacation already.
My 6yo dd will be doing:
MUS Alpha
Cooking Up World History - I've added history units for the countries that the book covers, so this will be her Geography and History.
Science - I have a bunch of experiments and units for this.
Language Arts/Reading/Writing/Spelling - All stuff I've come up with. She'll use Spelling Time for spelling, we'll read tons of books, and I have, again, a ton of different units for language arts.
Then we'll go to the museum, take some local field trips, and just have fun.
My 4yo dd - she'll be torturing the rest of us. :) I have some preK stuff for her, but I can only imagine she'll try to do what Hannah is doing.

Whitley (1st grade):
MathUSee Alpha (also math games, and worksheets when she wants them)
Learning Language Arts through Literature - red book
Explode the Code (if we need it) - book 4
Abeka Health, Safety, and Manners
Mystery of History 1 (probably spread b/c two years)
Apologia Zoology II (ocean creatures)
Whitley also will be attending one day a week of a homeschool "school". They do a lot of field trips and unit studies. Will be from 9-2:30 seven months of the year. She'll attend another one day a week science program for 12 weeks in the winter. They have 4 units - insects (life cycle, parts of the body, etc.), plants, wildlife, and I'm not sure on the last one. So basically for 7 months she will be homeschooled (by me) 4 days a week and 12 weeks out of those 7 months she'll be homeschooled (by me) 3 days a week. I'm excited as it sounds like a lot of fun for her, and more time for me to spend JUST with "the littles". We'll see how it works out.

Let's see...
We're pretty much schooling year around, b/c we take long breaks here and there (vacations, this year we had two moves, etc.) We made our final move in the beginning of May, and after getting settled in E's had several weeks of baseball camp, a week w/ grandpa at the beach, etc. So, we'll be starting back up this summer not next week but the following.
For the rest of the summer, we'll just be doing the basics:
4 days / week:
-Reading from our chapter book - we usually do 1-3 chapters a day, w/ E. & I (or DH) alternating reading every other page.
-fluency practice (either a game to help tracking skills, or work from the Phonics Pathways pyramid book, etc.)
-Handwriting
-Math U See
-Growing With Grammar
One day a week both boys will be at a local homeschool playgroup co-op from 9-1, and the other day Noah will go to playgroup while E and I go to the library or coffee shop to do our work. Noah *loves* playgroup, and would go every day if he could. 2 days a week is our compromise ;) We also have a weekly park day, and get together with friends at least once another time during the week.
In the Fall, I'll add back in History (right now I'm planning on doing early US History w/ Joy Hakim's series, supplemented w/ other living books) and Science (undecided there -- continue to be "eclectic" (unplanned, child led, mostly library or home-library book based), or I'm also looking at Noeo or My World Science.) E. will also do Little League again in the fall, and both boys will have art class once a week.

We will be doing.....
Alex (age 7, 1st or 2nd grade, we are vague on that!)
Math u see Beta (or I might decide to switch to a Miquon / Singapore combo - math u see is not working as well for us lately)
Loosely finish Winterpromise LA1 and then do our own thing for LA after that (was going to do WP LA2 and changed my mind in favor of something more relaxed...)
The 2nd half of American History (my own combo of WP American Story 2 and SOTW 3/4)
Sitting in on Animal Worlds if he wants to.
Piano lessons
Awana
Monthly class at children's museum
Henry (age 5, Kindergarten)
Math - we are about halfway through Math U see Primer, like above, I might switch to Miquon/Singapore, suffice it to say we will do math of some kind :)
Winterpromise Advanced K LA
Winterpromise Animal Worlds
Awana
Monthly class at Children's museum
Jack (nearly 4 by fall, preschool)
possibly sit in on Animal Worlds or if not, Winterpromise Ready to Learn
Winterpromise pre-K LA
Cuisenaire rod games and the like

For my 6th and 3rd grade boys they are doing Bob Jones for their core (Math, English, Spelling, Handwriting). For reading, they will be doing Sonlight 3rd and 5th grades. For History we will be doing SOTW volume 1 (this one is new for us, I'm excited) and I'm not positive about science. I'm hoping that Bryce can take a science class once a week, and Blake will do another elementary Apologia book with me.
Marlie is doing Kinder over again this year, but with different curriculum. She's a Dec 28th birthday andsis great with Kinder work until about Feb when she started having total meltdowns. Soooo we stopped and will start fresh this September. She'll be doing Phonics Museum K, Saxon Math 1, ETC 1 and 2 and whatever else I can keep her busy with!!

Aidan is doing K-1 work ( he had a year of public kindergarten but got almost nothing out of it). We have just started homeschooling two weeks ago.
For math we are using Math U See Primer, math board games, computer games and some skateboard math worksheets.
For writing we have Handwriting without Tears. Aidan gets writing practise at O.T. as well.
For science I am creating unit studies from a large variety of sources. Right now we are learning about space. We are also creating a science log book out of a sketch book.
For reading we have a few computer programs, the most complete of which is Intellitools. We also have a lot of beginning phonics readers. We have started doing sight word flash cards which I printed out from a teaching website.

this will be our first full year homeschooling. I'm very excited and nervous. We pulled Shiah from kindergarten in March and just relaxed and read and did whatever workbooks etc she wanted to do.
This fall I'm thinking we will start FIAR and Math u See beta. Really we'll mostly be playing things by ear.

I love this thread! I am brand new to homeschooling, haven't even told dh yet. I've been doing a lot of thinking and research on curriculum for my Kindergartener and preschooler. Not sure exactly what we'll do but I think it's going to be somewhat eclectic. I am very interested in Enki, but the Well Trained Mind also appeals to me (and will definitely to dh). I think we will start mainly with Enki (I think) and see how that feels to us.

We hs year round, with liberal breaks all year long. ;)
For ds 7.5~
MUS Beta (he'll be in Gamma by December, since we started Beta this Summer)
HWOT Cursive (starting this in the next couple of weeks, so it won't go all year)
Story of the World (still on the Ancients)
NOEO Science Chemistry 1 (I think we'll finish this before the year is up and move on to maybe NOEO Biology 1 or whatever the other one is)
we'll concentrate more on learning German, this is with CD's and the BBC website has an awesome German learning section.
He's still reading the Magic Treehouse series, I plan on getting the research books that go with them.
He does journal pages & spelling
Spongebob Typing program
I'm contemplating language arts, but he reads so much and we do journal pages, I'm not sure if I'll add it in yet, need to look at some programs!
He also will do swimming once a week, and various sports throughout the year, soccer, basketball, soccer again(lol) and then baseball.
I guess I consider him age wise, going into second grade, since he would be if he were in public school, but work wise, 2nd and 3rd.
Little ds is 4. I plan on starting Letter of the Week (the prep one) with him, I think he will love it. He is also included in everything we do with older ds if he wants to be. I plan on trying him on HWT and once he can write numbers a bit, MUS Primer.
it sounds like so much when I write it out, lol.
