I think that we might start it.
DS has access to the Rosetta Stone Latin. Should we go with that?

we've done latin this past year with prima latina and loved it. i highly recommend it. i haven't seen rosetta stone's latin but am assuming it's like the other rs's which are computer driven. we use rs spanish and like it a lot.

I want something easy for him as I want to include it but don't want him frustrated wither and I will be busy with a toddler and a baby. i was thinking that the computer part would be fun for him and an easy out for me...well not completely but y/k what I mean! ;)

I totally know what you mean :) -- Prima Latina is easy; they learn 5 vocab words per week, learn a line of a Latin prayer (so they can complete a prayer in Latin about every 5 lessons), learn a practical Latin saying each week. It is DVD driven, so Tucker watches the DVD (Griffin likes to sit in and watch it too) and then we do the workbook exercises on our own and then review each day. We put all our words, prayers, and practical latin on flash cards to review. It really is easy, and one of the boys favorite subjects. :) As a matter of fact, the other day, Griffin knocked over a glass at lunch and shouted "Mea Culpa!!"

Adding my support for Prima Latina. My 3rd grader has loved it so far and really learns a lot. Totally easy (for both mom and student) and very introductory :D

We started Prima Latina a couple of months ago... quickly put it away because we got orders, though. We wil ldefinitely be picking it back up.
We also have the book "English from the roots up" which includes latin and greek words that are often used in English words. It's mainly vocabulary - and the book is basically a bunch of different derivitave words with lists of words made from each. I like it as a resource.
Rummy Roots is a neat game to play, too, that helps the kids learn certain latin (nd greek???) words and meanings.

Would you recommend starting to with Latina Christiana for a 5th grader with no previous latin? Or should I still start with Prima Latina?

We're going to be picking back up with Prima Latina - and I have a 5/6th, 4th, 2nd and k/1st grader. The 5/6th grader was geting quite a bit out of it.
I haven't seen Latina Christiana, though. I am trying to keep as much combined as I can - which is why I am having all 4 do Prima Latina together.

thansk for teh reminder of English from the roots up. Would that be good to slide in next yr? I had looked at that a few yrs ago and thought I would use it someday.

Not Heather, but if I had only a 5th grader I was teaching I would start in LC rather than Prima Latina. We're using PL with a K, 1st, and 3rd grader, and I know the 3rd grader would be fine in LC rather than PL. We have both, because we're getting ready to move into LC.
