Can anyone recommend a book (with pics) or a website to identify wild growing edible foods & herbs?
I have very limited knowledge of what to look for in the area I'm in and I'd really like to learn more.
I don't know where you are, but this guy has some things that have helped me on his site:
Foraging With the "Wildman" (http://www.wildmanstevebrill.com/)
Also, just find a person with a lot of experience. Gee, that's easy, huh? I got lucky- my neighbor foraged as a kid, and her mom knows even more and loves to share her knowledge.

Herbal Branches Back Issues (http://www.learningherbs.com/branches_backissues.html)
Their site is a wealth of information (they happen to be from my area...a couple hours away). There is a quiz somewhere on the 10 most common herbs...or something like that. It was interesting. Just checked it, it's the "Herb Walk".
I'm always looking to learn more about this stuff, so I look forward to checking out the site linked by mamaxt.

i've been looking for one for northern new england....
Amy - great site! Rowan saw the chickweed in the chickweed pesto recipe, and says we have that out back. I think she's right. We're up to at least 5 wild edible "weeds" in our yard, plus a whole host of medicinal "weeds".
I'm trying to convince the neighbor who foraged as a kid to make the dandelion jelly and the blackberry wine with me. ;)

Hey, I only got two wrong! :p Poison hemlock, cause it looked like queen anne's lace, and jewelweed, which possibly hasn't grown in any area I have lived in, cause I don't recall ever seeing it before. I am impressed with myself!
