How much time do you spend one on one with each child? We are in "summer mode." Which means we are not doing a full schedule, just MUS for all because we take it alot slower, writing skills for 11yo. and 9yo., spelling for 8yo., general skills workbooks for 5yo., preschool activites for 3yo., and reading lots of books to 2 yo. I hate to admit it, but they are all a bit behind in at least one subject. I really want to get the most out of the things we do this summer. How could I schedule time with each, how much time and what to cover to keep us on track for the fall start?

I have been checking out this site and really like the schedules on it. They have weekly and daily schedules.

Kristan, I struggle with making time for each person, too.

Heather, do you have any sort of schedule or plan to try to stick to? Does it work?

I've tried... but you know me. ;) I have a very hard time with schedules. lol
HOWEVER, when I make a schedule and follow it pretty close - we get more done and I have the time for one on one. I really like using one of the planners at Donna Young's site. It has a time section, divided into half hour segments going down the left side. Then across the top there are sections for the names of the kids. I can work everything out on there, giving each child MOM time. I'll probably work on another schedule once our household goods get here and we get settled in. Lauren is so close to reading, she really needs me to spend devoted time with her each day just on that. I'm also really going to try to combine the two older ones with Sea and Sky, then combine Adam and Lauren with Animal Worlds. So, I need to figure out how to get time with each 'group'. lol

Have you seen or heard of Managers of Their Home?
Official Titus2.com: homeschool information by Steve and Teri Maxwell (http://www.titus2.com/)
It's a scheduling system that some find ... rigid?...but has some great pointers and ideas. They are a large homeschooling family and she really works in individual time for each child. She also suggests having older kids read and work with younger ones, which may help you. She does advocate scheduled nursing, so be warned if you disagree. Despite that, using her method forced me to sit down, determine what needed to happen each day and schedule it out during times in our life when we needed that (dh in school, me busier in my work, etc). Good luck!

I haven't seen it, but I have heard of it :) I probably should break down and get it instead of whining and complaining, huh?! Thanks for the suggestion mama.

You're welcome. Even if you don't fully use the system as written, there are some good ideas and pointers. And even doing it periodically makes you evaluate your situation and what needs to change!
