our neighbourhood wont allow clotheslines, so i need to rig something inside.
what do you use inside that you like? do you have a retractable line inside your house/your garage?

I have a retractable line in my laundry room. I bought it at Lowe's. HTH!
Branwyn - we're not allowed clotheslines either, but Ikea clothes drying racks on the deck are not, in fact, clotheslines. ;) They hold a lot of clothes - 2 loads from my washer. If you have an extra large capacity washer, it would probably be more like 1 1/2 loads per rack.

I have an IKEA drying rack as well and then one from Bed, Bath and Beyond that I set up on my deck. The IKEA one is awesome!

i tried that, a neighbour complained and the HOA came to show me the HOA guidelines that include drying racks in the covenants :(
Aww - bummer. Ours only says "clotheslines" so I can get around it.

We went to the hardware store and bought 2 large hooks that screw into the wall (in our case, solid log on one side, and a solid wood railing on the other). Then bought two pulleys that have holes on one side. They get put on the hooks, and the line strung between the pulleys, using a line tightener to keep it tight. Voila, a pulley-driven clothesline. In our case, we hung it high - our cabin has an open ceiling and loft. So the clothesline goes from the upstairs loft to the wall across from it, across our living room at about 15 feet high. No need to retract. But you might want to consider retractable. We did use one of those outside years ago and it worked great.
Since it's summer, I now hang outside, and am thinking about hanging our Tibetan peace flags on the indoor clothesline. :) Then again, it sometimes rains!
