Recently while on a field trip to a local flower shop I was approached by a lady who wanted to know why my kids were not in school. She was quite invasive with her questions so I asked her not to bother us because we WERE on a homeSCHOOL fieldtrip It was rude and disruptive and I started thinking about what I could do to make "society" less nosey.
Well, I think I have come up with a great idea. Our homeschool has made up id cards for each child and each parent. The cards are then laminated and put on a lanyard. While we are out and about the kids can wear these. It has stopped ALL questions about why my kids are not in school! I love this idea. You can do this too... the following sites are terrific and free. I used the second link and LOVE it. Take a peek.

Am I the last mama on earth who has never ever been confronted about why my kids aren't in school? Just curious. We've been asked before if they were out of school for the day and just answered that we homeschool. We've only had positive replies to that.

I have never been confronted in negative way, but I have been asked "Is it a school holiday?"

I've never been confronted/asked, either.
We get asked if we homeschool all the time. It's pretty normal around here, so people are rarely surprised to see my kids at all hours. There are still a few with questions, though.
I think the cards would be good for teens who might be out *doing* something during the day so they would be able to explain that they aren't truants. Like for my young teen neighbor who trades working on a horse farm for riding time one day a week.

and when my oldest wears a homeschool t shirt no one asks us why we're not in school!
My children would lose their ID cards; it's all they can do not to lose their library cards! When we go traveling at the end of this year we'll need passports but I'm keeping those! (They cost a lot of money and we number 6 in my family!)
When it's just me and maybe my 7yo no one bothers us but it just chaps the hides of many people apparently to see my 9 1/2 and 10 1/2 yos in public during school hours!?!
Sincerely,
Debra, homeshooling mom of 4 ages 10, 9, 7, and 4

I can't believe that she would be so rude as to question a parent about why her children are where they are. What **** business of it is hers??
