From what I recall as a kid they are so much sweeter than the regular strawberries. Eat them!

You need to thin them out big time! They do grow fast and they sprout offshoots and spread even more. They are like toddlers...hard to contain :)

What you can do is take them to a spot where they can take over, and put in a yard barrier around them. Just give them a big circle of yard and let them go to it.

When you have one go outside that area, spray it with 2 times water to 1 time vinigar. This will kill them without chemicals. In two rains or so, you can plant grass seed right in that spot where you pulled the dead strawberry out and it will grow.

They are wonderful tasting little berries though!

they are in a "bed" not in the lawn actually...what do i do there? just pull them out?

Mow over them... they will go away. Weed wack, really close to the base of the bed so they don't spread, and then mow the rest. I think that will take care of it... you may have to pull some of the stubborn ones though.

Good luck! I would love to have that problem. ;)

Wait... so you don't want them in the bed? What are they choking out? You could add mint, oregano, lemonbalm, chives, garlic chives, a rosemary bush, a bay tree, iris, gladi's, and other such root invasives and they will control them themselves. I have a bed (the back one with the prayer flags) that is set up to be like a forest floor. It has all the invasives in it, even the self seeding ones, and I have just let them duke it out over territory, and they control themselves. There are viturally no weeds, and no work. I put in bulbs that may or may not servive because of the neighbors...

yea..i don't want them in the bed. it's a flower bed...but really it's a large part of my yard. i have trees and flowers and bushes and such...but i don't really want strawberries as ground cover over it all.

yea i see them as a great ground cover with flowers planted in the same area julie- you can weed wack them when they come too far out- but they are great along the walk way- you can still step on them and they grow- just think about it- you can either add more mulch or let them keep weeds at bay.
