I planted 4 coreopsis plants last Sunday and they are now all wilty. What am I doing wrong? They are in full sun and I have watered. Any ideas for me?

I'll be watching this because all my flowers are wilting too!

Yeah.........I'd like to be able to blame it on that, but I think I am not a very good gardener!
We did have a frost warning the other night and I didn't cover them......maybe that's why? Did you get frost by you?
Who knows..............

how did you plant them? my coreopsis were small and bushy the first 2 years. one of them barely made it out of the ground and was always wilty for both the first two years...this year, they are already as tall as me and both of them have 2 babies each. um...i thought they were a variety that only grew to 18"?? :drop:

i dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and twice as deep. fill it some with composted soil (bagged usually) and then remove them from the pot, loosen the root ball some and place them in the hole, moving the dirt back around them and then softly tamping the soil around the base with my foot.

works for all my perennials.

so...how did you plant them? as in...how deep? how wide? soil additives? did you fertilize right away (not good for new plantings for a couple weeks...)

just thoughts...

Thanks Tracey! I did pretty much as you said. They are actually looking less wilty in the last day or so, so I think they are fine. I was just freaking out with the rabbits eating my other stuff and then these started wilting. lol

Always check the plants in the evening after the weather cools down. If you check in mid day it is pretty sure that most transplants will be wilty because they don't have the root structure for a few weeks to withstand that type of heat/sun without some wiltage. My tomato plants do this every year... than a week later they are shooting out new greenies and everything is great!

We had a frost a few nights back too. Some of my stuff looked wilty for a few days - I was able to cover some things, but not every single flower, ya know! They are perking up now though!
