I have a 1 week old that I think is developing a suck issue. I am not hurting and she seems to have a good latch, but is pulling her tounge down instead of in and out. She makes a snapping noise and occasionally flicks my nipple. She is gaining weight and is happy, but I think is nursing more frequently because she isn't getting the amount that she could. Any one know how I can try and correct this????

No, if anything, she has a lizzard tongue. LOL. I thought my son's tongue was tied and may be still is, but didn't run into this prob with him.
Thanks for replying

She can stick her tongue out of her mouth without a problem. Is there any way she can still be tongue tied? I don't really know how much has to be tied to cause problems.

I agree she does remind me of an eskimo baby and absolutley ADORABLE~
Eh, thats kind of hard to tell ,Lacy. Shes a week old, so i would imagine shes nursing a lot anyway, if your not hurting and shes happy, having enough wet diapers, Id not worry until there is something to worry about:hug:

like tara said, if it isnt a bother to either of you, probably no problem.

sorry for the concern, friend. although i have no training/experience in this area, suck training for babies with true need for it, involves a gloved finger in the mouth and pressure on specific areas of the tongue to train it to move effectively and efficiently. maybe you could tell more of what she's doing/not doing by having her suck on your finger?
