we've done DE, no go. We're trying coffee grounds/coffee, not sure on it yet. I'm tired of losing all my food to slugs! These things are breeding like crazy here! I know about beer traps, but just dont feel comfortable with leaving beer out around kids, thats just me. Sooo - anything else to try or do I have to accept that 99% of my luscious berries are going to the snails? :wah:

Well... My marigolds got eaten by slugs, they were down to nothing. I put out beer traps, and it has definitely worked. The first time I checked them, there were slugs galore, including about a dozen baby slugs. Hope they enjoyed the beer. It's been a couple of weeks, and I only get a slug once every few days.

It's really not a lot of beer, I use cat food cans (from mil, we don't have a cat) and buy the cheapest beer I can find. You can put them out late in the evening, and pick them up in the morning, to keep the kids from getting in them.

I've also heard that if you sprinkle ground up eggshells around your plants, the slugs can't crawl on them, the sharp edges will cut them up.
