My dh told me 2 days ago that he is concerned that he may get laid off. We are so not prepared, especially with 9 kiddos to feed.

I am so glad we got out of debt when we did, but we have not yet built up our cushion savings wise. It's a scary thing to think about.

I guess I will start decluttering try to sell some things and maybe I can raise some money just in case.

Any other ideas would be welcomed.

I'm sorry Aileen, I know how scary that has to be. I hope is concerns don't turn out to be reality. *hugs*

I am so sorry that you have to go through this worry. I hope your dh is able to keep his position.

 I hope all goes well on the job front. You are very frugal and creative. I have faith that you will be able to keep it together.

We suffered a job loss before our 6 month EF was built up. We stretched a 3 month EF with a little ebay, unemployment for 2 months followed by PT contract employment, and a $300/month grocery budget. So our 3 month EF made it 5 1/2 months, even with COBRA. I'm sure you can stretch whatever you have saved.

Don't be afraid to take the unemployment insurance if it's available. We didn't want to, but a friend pointed out that we had paid in since we started working, and this was precisely why.

Oh, hugs Aileen! We went through a veeeeerrrryyyyy long lay off a couple years ago, in which dh had to cahnge jobs entirely as there was nothing in his field.

Then two weeks ago, his new field had huge lay offs. He escaped that time, but we were concerned.

I tried really hard to not worry about it until it happened. And to console myself that if it did happen, there is unemployment to help get by along with all the other frugal things you know how to do. But I just really hope you don't need to test that all out at this point.

 Aileen. I hope he is able to keep his position. If not, I agree; if it does happen, don't hesitate to take the unemployment benefits. You never know; there could be some kind of hidden blessing in that maybe something even better will come along...but I hope like heck you don't have to worry about it!

Thanks for your well wishes mamas!

He is a project manager by title, but he actually does database development/computer programming/server management etc...

It's one of those situations where he could get the bad news in a week or a few months. That is really unsettling, but *if* it's a few months, we'd have a bit more time to prepare anyway.

Yeah!!! It's not THAT far from your sisters (6 hours), and you'd be closer to ME!!! And instead of trying to figure out which of you I'm going to visit, I could visit you both at 1x!

I'll tell Keith not to worry that you two have everything all figured out and Lisa has a job lined up. Actually he did mention the possibility of moving and his parents do live in Alabama. :)

Well, if he does get laid off, you have to look on the bright side. He wouldn't move away because he loved his job (which stinks even more if they let him go), so maybe you'll be able to move away from that one person now! You just need to convince your sisters to do the same!

Still praying for you though! Not knowing has got to stink!! I think I would just get a new job (if it were that easy, lol) just so I knew what was going on!

Hey, now, N Georgia is right between TN and 'bama, and we want custody of Aileen and her passel of kids, here, too. ;) Plus, we have technology city right here (Alpharetta) where her DH can work. I'll find him a job. I know LOTS of geeks. Actually, pretty much every man I know around here is a geek, and most of them are project managers by title. :p

We still have lots of farmland north of here and everything. :D
