grrr, I am so irritated! Everything I am touching is turning to raspberry jello and I am ready to scream!!!
I have been sewing all wekk getting ready to make a swap outfit for Rebekak's cutie, since it has been a few months since I was sewing I wanted to whip some things together for practice first and everything is turning to CRAP!!! It is too big, too baggy, hangs too funky, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

I do not know what to do to redeem myself here. I know I went wrong by starting out the week drafting my own cutesy little thing from scratch - I had such big dreams for it too, I was on clothing designer and seamstress cloud nine.....till I finished it. It did not come together at all, so then I tried to redeem it with my first peasant top, again, neck too tight, arms not right, so then I tried to whip out a pillowcase dress from the sew-along here thinking I could NOT mess it up, but I doubted my measurements and added more, more, and more and now I have the cutest fabric all sewed up in a massive pillowcase type thing that my dd swims in (but, I will say, my seams on that project were postiively gorgeous and I learn how to self bind so I am supah jazzed about that). I need to get it together and get at least ONE cute outfit cranked out so I can duplicate it and be a good swapster!!!!

Okay, deep breath, glass of wine. Just keep stiching.

bless your heart!!!! cool that you did learn to self bind though. At least one positive thing came out of it. I won't even say "chalk it up to experience" or some such nonesense cause we are talking FABRIC here!! LOL

I need to go sew something too but alas, I am gonna watch a movie all by myself ( well, just me and my knitting needles).

Can't wait til you churn out some cool threads so you can S N s them!!

okay, I think I can get over my fit. I am going back to my KS books which make me feel on top of the world as a seamstress when I use them, but the pictures on the cover keep me avoiding them and thinking I can do it on my own.
Teathymes, ya can't. Get over trying. Pick up your loverly KS book and some stash fabric and sew something that will actually fit someone for a change mmmkay??

 That was me a few weeks ago. I could *see* it in my head but getting it to come out right, nope! I chucked what I was working on, got more muslin to try again & left it for a few days to let the "bad vibe" clear out.

yeah, go back to the old stand bys. Don't worry so much about the "cut" of the fabric, worry about the details. The pretty stitch on the hem, the bit of ribbon here, the way the fabrics match together, the matching headbands etc. I find when I focus less on the cut and more on the detail things turn out much nicer. I'm a very simple sewer at heart.

Raspberry jello.... mmmmmm....

I'm sorry everything seems to be coming out wrongly - sounds like the next thing is bound to come out RIGHT (especially since you've perfected your seams and self-binding!) :)

A few weeks ago
I cut out a dress out of PRR linin circle, only I don't know what I was thinking. I didn't have enough for the front of the dress...not even close.

then I thought I would try my hands at knit again...and I cut a shirt (for me) going the wrong way across the stretch

okay...don't give up right? I thought I would cut out a new pattern for dd, the pattern had some vague light lines and I wasnt sure what they were, thinking that they had transfered from another part of a pattern, I cut right through them, only to find out that they were part of the pattern and non salvagable.

I gave up after that and let my sewing room sit for a week or so. I totally understand jello for brains. try again with a tried and true pattern and alter it just a tiny bit. Add an embellishment or give it contrasting sleeves. Have you tried the Jayme dress? I always feel free spirited when I make that, and now that you have conquered binding, it would be perfect for you. There is a free download at Sewingmamas with the pattern and directions.

thanks for all the support and ideas! I think that KS has redeemed me as I did crank out a perfect pair of capris this morning and am now working on an aline swing top based loosley on a combo of the pillowcase dress and one of my dd's favorite tops.

I had to step away from the cute fabric I only had 1 yd of and get out a bigger stash so I could make mistakes without freaking out. I always buy fabric on sale, thinking I will just use it to practice, but then I find I like it and become attached to it and don't allow myself the freedom to waste some of it learning new stuff. So here is me, wasting my way to sharper sewing skills.

I wrote a little poem to KS in my head as I was leaping joyously around the room over my perfect capris.

Rebeka, I can't tell you how glad I am to hear of your mishaps, cause now you are turning out the cuteness so hopefully I am not far behind!

Thanks again everyone - I will update this post with pics of my capri/swing top combo when I get the top conquered! I wish it was easier for me to just follow directions sometimes, my whole life would be simpler, but I always have to alter them just a teensy bit, cooking, sewing, everything.

And the first lines from the poem by Shel Silverstein lol,

Squishy Touch

Everything King Midas touched,
turned to gold, the lucky fellow.
Every single thing I touch
turns to raspberry jello.

yeah! I have had success!!

FIrst, a little poem for ya!!!!

Ode to Kwik Sew

Oh Kwik Sew!
I love you!
You know that - it's true!
So simple
so foolproof
and super Kwik too!

I wander and stray
trying to sew far away
But come running back, crying back
promising to do things your way

your photos, and pictures
so very, outdated
but your directions, techniques
leave me, elated.

Kwik Sew! My Kwik Sew!
Never again will I go
I am following your foorptints,
as through my stash I sew!!

okay, so here is my success story after my week of sewing disaster! I am back on track now and learned a ton in the process, I am all about the selfbinding thing I picked up in the pillowcase dress sew along.

The fabric here is a clearance toile print, with black grosgrain ribbon. Pants are KSFT with the legs shortened and widened. TOp is my own creation, a variation of the pillowcase dress and cut tighter off an aline top my dd has. I also cut straight across the back so it ties around her neck and her shoulders are open.

That outfit is wonderful! It is very cute and your dd looks like she loves it!

I totally love your poem, too. Poetry about sewing. :)

I always buy fabric on sale, thinking I will just use it to practice, but then I find I like it and become attached to it and don't allow myself the freedom to waste some of it learning new stuff.

This is me, too. And now my stash has grown to disgusting proportions so I have to just get over it and use it. I wish I weren't so afraid to mess up. There are certain things I know I can so well (cotton or mostly-cotton knits) and I'm not afraid of them. But all other stuff (fashion fabrics and quilting type wovens) I'm intimidated by.

I love it all - poems, outfit, and your dd's enthusiasm!
