I have some felted sweaters I cut up to sew into a blanket. I don't have a serger and was wondering if anyone here has made a wool blanket. It seem like we had a thread not to long ago but I couldn't find it. Would you just overlap and zigzag or sew like a regular quilt square?
Any suggestions?

I would sew like a regular quilt square, but then press open the seam allowences and zig-zag over the seam. I'd hate for all my hard work to fall apart!! And with how loose some sweaters a knit, even felted, I would want to make sure the ends couldn't unravel.

I might do french seams honestly. I'm not a zig zag fan personally.

When I made mine I just butted the squares up together and zigzagged. No seam allowances to deal with and it made it reversible.

butted them together? what's that?
french seams, IMO, may be too bulky depending on thin/thick the sweaters are. i have tried piecing sweaters together and have had a lot of trouble with the seams being bulky or wavy so i'll be keeping an eye on this thread!

They are just right next to each other, no overlap. I did them this way after a couple of mamas on SM did theirs that way and I saw some pictures of the various felled wool items Crispina (http://www.crispina.com/collections/collections_blankets_basic.html) sells.
You do have to be concerned about how well the sweater is felled. I wash mine at least twice to insure no raveling. You also need a really wide zigzag and very square edges to make sure the pieces catch and you don't get spots where you've missed catching both sides. Heavy cables are kind of difficult to use for that reason.
