I wanted new chairs. We had the chairs and table form DH's grandparents. I love them... but the chairs were falling apart. It's a beautiful set - including a buffet (right now it's in our livingroom holding the tv and being DVD storage).

So dh convinved me to just get a new table AND chairs. We put the old table in storage.

I went a few different places before finding the perfect set for our growing family! I wanted something that would wear well - since we move so much. It had to take some dings without looking ratty. It also had to have seating for the 6 of us - plus a few more. But... I didn't really want an extension table - I don't like the line in it. ;)

This is what we decided on. We've had it about 2 weeks now and we absolutely love it. The table is 40x72. We got 2 long benches for the long sides. Each bench could easily seat 4 children. :) Then we also got 2 chairs for the ends. One for me, one for dh. Eventually, this will go nicely in my huge eat in kitchen in our permanent house (yet to be found). The dings it will get will not make it look bad at all... it will only add character. :) And the wood tone coordinates well with my livingroom furniture... a huge bonus since most military housing doesn't have a separate diningroom.

Got it all from World Market on sale.

That is beautiful Heather.
We got a great(very thick and stable) farm style table and chairs FREE from a garage sale a few years ago. And my uncle just built one long bench and two short ones to go with it so we fit better :) I will take pics when I finally get the benches here.

The benches make a HUGE difference in space. I absolutely love them.

And cool - FREE?!?!
Yeah, FREE!!! My MIL got the set at a garage sale in her neighborhood and when they heard it was for us, they gave it at no cost :)
I did, however, pay my uncle $150 for the benches. They are absolutely beautiful and worth the money. They all have backs because he was worried about Kerah falling off. They should be delivered by my brothers as soon as the rain subsides for an hour or two  I am going to use beeswax to finish them. Can't wait!

Very nice! I always loved benches. My mom has fond memories of fighting with her (six) siblings over the makeshift bench seat on top of the radiator in the kitchen. :-) I visited an old farmhouse once and they had a huge old picnic style table, finished, in their kitchen with bench seating. Felt so perfect in that kitchen.
