I have a 22 month old who is still nursing quite frequently, he also sleeps in our bed and nurses periodically through the night. I haven't had a period since I got pregnant with him. I would like to try to get pregnant again soon, but am obviously not ovulating. Have any of you gone this long without a period?? Is it normal?

I had one period on Adam's first birthday, and the next month I got pregnant.

With ds, I went 20 months without a period, with dd it was 18 or 19 months. And I enjoyed it, except for not knowing when I was fertile!!!

Yes, it's absolutely normal to go that long without a cycle.

Thanks for letting me know it's normal to go this long w/o period. Every woman I have asked (in my circle of friends) has had a period by this time, so it's nice to hear that it's not unusual. Ok, so for my next question, I am wondering if anyone has any good tips for night weaning. My dh and I co-sleep with ds. Dh works until after bed time four nights of the week, so he can't really take over night duty, as some friends have suggested. So, I am trying to figure out how to night wean in the most peaceful way possible. Any suggestions?? What have you done regarding night weaning?

Each of my younger 4 are almost exactly 2.5 years apart. (2 March babies and 2 September babies). I did not cycle until 21 months. I remember trying to stop night nursing in between one of them so we could conceive and what my crazy brain remembers is that I was a bit tired because I would wake myself up to rub babies' back or rock or say " we can nurse only when the sun comes up" . It worked, only at 21 months then that baby continued nursing somewhat at night.

Do you have the book "The No Cry Sleep Solution" ? Can't remember the author at the moment but I have heard great reviews for an attached way to help babies/toddlers sleep through the night (or sleep more).

Hopefully someone with better experience will step up.. Best wishes for TTC!!

Can't help much there... I weaned ds at 4 1/2, because I was pg with dd. Dd is 3, still nursing, and both kids are still co-sleeping!

I am an 18 monther. lol
My last 2 boys I didn't start my period until they were 18 months old. I fully expect this one to be the same time. Atleast I know how long to wait. lol. But I would love it if it was even longer.
About night weaning, I can't really help you much. I tried it with my now 5 year old, when he was younger and it ended up being more hassle and I was getting even less sleep than before. I finally just decided it really wasn't worth it.

My dd was about 27-28 months when I got my period, it was right after I got her into her own room. I was trying to help my marriage. It didn't work (for way more reasons than that). When she was 3 I weaned her using distraction, various treats, and some bribery.

I just got AF back after over 2 yrs (counting pregnancy) and we were down to nursing only before bed. I probably wouldn't have gotten it back except DH and I went away for a weekend and even though I pumped I must not have pumped enough. :(

I never got pregnant either with any of my babies until I stopped nursing the toddlers- completely. It was nice, but when I wanted to get pregnant , I just couldn't.

Glad I found this post. I just went for my annual gynny visit and she almost wigged out at the fact that I haven't had AF since Dec 2005. Well, do the math - dd was born in Sept 2006 and is still nusrsing at 16/17 m/o. Pretty regularly and almost all through the night. Hence, my prior post on melatonin and getting my 16 m/o to sleep through the night. I've given up trying to get her to sleep through, but it's nice to know it's normal to not have AF for this long.

I figure she won't be nursing by high school :D Now if she would just stop thinking that EVERY time I sit down it's feeding time.
