bummer. Part of personal responsibility is being on time, and another part is owning up. If she can't do one I'm not surprised she can't do the other.
Was this your manager?

Yeah, been there and it did suck. She later actually wanted ME to apologize for firing her for not doing my billing for two months.

btdt, too. I try to see it in a similar light as turning down a date or dumping a boyfriend (way back when) - I try to do it in a way that helps them maintain their dignity and see themselves as desireable while being dumped. I'm completely honest about why it didn't work out on my end - but I do think that the knowledge of why it didn't work out has the real potential to help them step up the to plate the next time around.

We (I and the owner) had to fire 2 people this year and 3 or 4 people last year. It never gets easier! UGH
