Congratulations on your new house !:)

I'm subbing to this ! We are in a 1600 sq ft plus basement house for the 6 of us !:) I guess you'll have to think about vertical storage space, use the wall, get extra high kitchen cabinet and also use under the bed storage if you can !:)

We're 10 people in less than 1800 square feet. No real tricks I guess other than what you already know - declutter, then declutter more. You'd think when our oldest went to college, we'd get more space, but my dddh has this idea that we can't touch ds's space or he'll feel unwelcome when he comes home on breaks!!! Yikes!!!

Something that really made a difference for us was that dh made a bed/storage unit (we are soooo not-handy people, but he just took it slow and followed the instructions in a magazine) for our girls. All four girls are in a bedroom less than 10 ft by 10 feet, but this unit puts all four of their beds plus all of the older girls' clothes, all craft stuff, and all of the clothes for their dolls all on one wall in that room, so there is still room for floor play and a hopechest used as a bench in there.

It was helpful to me to think of rooms in terms of functions I needed filled, rather than the standard use of rooms. We need quiet zones, clean zones, mess zones, etc and it works better for us to ignore the typical use of rooms in favor of arranging for the way we use our home (especially as, being homeschoolers, we're all here all day other than dh and the aforementioned college son).

So true!!! It has taken dh a long time to understand that we *do not* have to look like BH&Gardens magazine. We cannot. We homeschool and not school-at-home either. WE *live* in this house but we do not let it consume us (most of the time anyway).
