Just for fun, what material do you prefer for your needles and why?

Yeah, I voted for both bamboo and metal. I like bamboo for my DPN's, because they don't slide as easily, but I like metal for long stretches of garter or stockinette, because they're fast. Plus I like the clicky noise :)

I also voted wooden because the fancy rosewood ones are gorgeous :)

I only use bamboo, except for one set of Addi circs that are 40in and a size 19
I'm a slow knitter by choice and want to enjoy every stitch and not feel rushed along. Metal makes me feel rushed.

Poo....didn't see it was multiple choice....I love my Knitpicks options, unless I need DPNs, and those are all wood. I made them myself from dowels.

Pretty much all I have are metal. I tried some wooden ones, but they were too grabby. I knit a little on the tight side, and I prefer the slippery-ness of the metal.

It depends on the yarn and the pattern. I have a set of Boye circs and I love how smooth the joints are and having any needle size I could need. I like wood/bamboo for certain yarns or patterns to reduce slippage. Basically though, I prefer circs, no matter the material.

I like metal for smaller sizes. Wood/bamboo ones get broken around here and plastic is too flexible. For size 4 and up it depends upon the yarn. I can't stand the feel of synthetic on metal. I swear I can hear it squeaking, LOL.

I prefer circular needles, too.

Ditto and I love the clicky noise too.... That said, I wish I was a better knitter with the natural needles!!

I guess I should answer my own poll... I also tend to knit on the tight side so I'm forcing myself to use wood and bamboo to re-train myself.

I use a bit of everything though.

I bought bamboo knitting needles because I needed short circs and they were the only ones I could find in the length I needed, actually in real life (not on the internet). I was assured by many people that bamboo knitting needles are wonderful. I really should have known that since I don't like bamboo crochet hooks I wouldn't like bamboo knitting needles. They are less annoying than the hook, but only marginally. I don't like the feel; it seems as if I'll break them if I'm not careful, and I'm paranoid about them sprouting splinters even though they probably won't.

I was a bamboo fan till I got my knit picks options. I love them, and I like the slippery-ness of them, LOL.

I will only knit with bamboo needles, and usually bamboo circs even if I'm doing flat work. I HATE the sliperyness of metal, and I hate the clicky sound even more.

Funny how we are all so different. :)

I use only bamboo at this point.....I started my first knitting project (last April) with bamboo circs and I've just purchased the same ones each time I've needed another size. I would like to try the addi ones sometime but haven't had a reason so far....

I am a bamboo fan as well, but I just ordered the knitpicks options and hope i love those needles too. I couldn't resist because it is a good deal for the number of needle combinations you end up with. I really love knitting with circular needles and even learned magic loop so that I could retire my dpns (hopefully). I am so glad to read this review!

Magic Loop is awesome with the KP set! I found it a bit difficult w/ the 32" cable that came with the set, but I went back and ordered the 47" and 60" cables and have since made several smaller things on the 47" cable with Magic Loop. It was really easy and I got much better looking results than I ever did with dpns.

I hope you love them as much as I do, I was worried they would feel cold, but they warm up quickly once you start knitting!

I got them and LOVE them. I already raved at sewing mamas, but I think that the KPs Options set is a good investment. I much prefer magic loop over dpns and it is so much easier to do ML with these cables than with the BOYE I was using.

Bought my first pair of Addi Turbos.

Oh my, they are lovely. I think I'm addicted.

Anyone try the Denise interchangable set? My LYS has them in and the owner raved about them.

I got my knitpicks set last week. Haven't had too much time to play with them, but I really love them so far.

Edited to add a link to a site that has reviewed tons of needles (and yarns, too!) I go there all the time to look up things before I buy them online. Knitter's Review - In-depth reviews of knitting yarn (http://knittersreview.com/tools.asp)

I voted metal, I like the clicky noise they make, remides me of my Mom knitting :)
