$700 :drop:
We got Winter Promise Sea and Sky, WP LA for 3rd and 5th grades and the suppliment for younger learners.
Praying it will be a good fit for us. We have always used SL. The kids seem excited, hope I am too. I will probably look through it later today.

Yeah, gulp! At least when I get a big box from Sonlight, I know I will like it :)
This is our first experience with Winter Promise. Honestly, I am scared to look at the IGs, what if I don't like it as much as I thought I would?

We're using WP this year after using Sonlight and I really love it. Oh, and the children do, too. Lauryn is doing Animal Worlds and Reid and Jacob are doing AS1.

Lisa, I'm glad you chimed in. I had been wondering how it was going for you guys after so much time w/ SL. Do you have any more detailed comments or suggestions? I'm thinking about getting AW to do for the rest of this year and thru the summer, and then start AS1 in the fall. I've heard some folks say they think AS is a *bit* heavy for 7 yo's. What has your experience been like?

Hi Christine! I miss you around here :) Lauryn is really enjoying the AW, I think Ethan would like it, too. She has learned so much about animals. I really like the One Small Squre books and the animal encyclopedia. There are lots of activites, things you can make, etc, that you can do if you like. Lauryn has really enjoyed those, too.

Jacob is 7 and AS 1 has been good for him. He has learned a lot about American history. One great thing about living in this area is that there are so many places to visit. We hope to come back to Monticello once Chris gets back from tour - maybe we can meet you for lunch. We went to Mt Vernon when we were learning about George Washington - they have a wonderful new interactive museum. Very nice! We're also planning to go to Philadelphia once it warms up a little.

Let me know if I can help with any specific questions. I wish we were still close enough so you could come take a peek at AW and AS1.

Thanks for the input, Lisa. That's good to know. I know Ethan would love the animal series, so I don't want to hurry into the American Story and miss out on the "window" for AW, so to speak. I was looking at the description of the animal habitat book, and that is so totally up his ally! He loves catching critters and keeping them for viewing, etc. If it were up to him, his room would be lined with aquariums and terrariums! We've love to catch up with you when you head this way. There are things (people, mostly) that we miss about MD, but we're so thrilled to be here -- and the HSing community is fantastic :)

I spent a lot of time researching Winter Promise. I have loved FIAR and still think it's a fantastic program especially for the young ones but I'm really excited about giving WP a try. I've been struggling with tailoring FIAR to all of my boys so the idea of using the guides with WP really excites me. It will be so nice to have everything already laid out for me.

I decided to go with World of Animals and American Story 1 with Native American focus. I'll use AW with all 3 younger boys (9,6,4) and then I'll also be using AS1 with my 9 year old. I'm sure Gage will want to join in too.. from time to time. I also chose WP's LA programs for both Jack and Gage.

It was going to cost me $988 to order everything from WP. I wanted to patronize them with my business but we just couldn't swing it. It took me about 2 weeks but I managed to get almost everything I needed secondhand and also upgraded at least 85% of the readers to hardcovers. I have spent less than $450. I need a few more things and will probably have to get those directly from WP. Still, I will be spending approximately $550 in total for everything. This is a great accomplishment.

So far I've had 6 box days with 3 more on the way (*LOVE* box days!). I'm really liking what I see in WP. I haven't gotten the guide yet for AS1 (it's in route now) and I'm very anxious to sit down with it. I've got to work out a loose schedule for the boys and order Gage's Horizons math. I also bought Apologia Astronomy and I really hope to fit this in somewhere. I purchased Galloping the Globe too. It looks like it's going to be a great resource to tie in with AW. I'm going to give myself a week to soak it all in and then we'll get started. I'm really, *really* looking forward to it and I have the boys all excited about it too.

The Sea & Sky program looks wonderful. I'm looking forward to reading your review.
