We are looking at WP. What do you like and not like about it? Can you tell me more about the activities in it? What kind of supplies do you need? What kinds of activities are there?

We are doing Animal Worlds right now. I will try to post later what some typical activities look like (I don't have my IG in front of me right now).
I will tell you what I love is the books. Overall they are wonderful. I love that the books are very hands on.
The only problem I have with it is that I don't like having my reading spread over a week of a page or two in several books. But we have worked that out by just doing as much reading as we want in the books. We follow the guide for the spine and then read as much as we want in the other books that are scheduled and really we usually finish the books in about the same amount of time.
For example instead of reading a couple of pages in the One Small Square series every day. We will read it in one or two sittings. The same with the read alouds that are scheduled. Even doing this we still manage to finish the OSS books and read alouds at about the same time we are ready to start a new habitat in the DK Ency (spine).
The only other thing I would like is if the IG was actually on the computer so I could make changes to it and print it out like I want to. I would love to be able to add in our math and LA on the same IG. I realize that this is realistic but it would be neat. Next year we are using WP LA so I don't think this will be as big an issue for me.

We are doing American Story I... The books are awesome! I just wish they had more and the reading shorter. They are spread way to far out for ds's reading level. You could add more they do have suggestions for more though that you can easily get at your library.
The activities vary a lot. I will say that in ASI, there is a lot of coloring, cutting and pasting. But the further the year goes, the larger the variety. You don't have to do all the activities though. We don't do a lot of the coloring. Also they have a suggestion of at least 1 website and 1 dvd series everyweek. That's cool for us. And they do suggest some field trips, too.
Overall, I really liked the program, however, I think that Sonlight was a better fit for us. Ds likes a lot of reading, and is usually not thrilled to do activities.

Robin, you should email your suggestion about a computer version of the IG to WinterPromise. I think it is VERY realistic and a GREAT idea. Since WP is a young company, they are really listening to their customers. Maybe we will see something like that in the near future if it is suggested! I'm thinking they probably already have something like that (a form program of some sort), and putting it into a resource form might be totally do-able (this is a computer programmer's wife talking, so I see techno possibilities everywhere.)

Here are some of the activity ideas...
One Small Square: African Savanna
borrow a video on the savannah from the library. View the video with the sound turned off and write down in your notebook what you think the animals are doing. Then rewatch it with the sound. Write if it was easy or hard to tell what the animals were doing.
Make your own Savanna Field Guide with instructions
Cut and Dried
Cut some grass and arrange it on a sheet of paper ,more instructions on drying the grass. Once it is dried mount it and cover it with plastic wrap to hang up and enjoy.
Instructions for making a savanna diorama
Wildlife Habitats
make a wildlife footprint cast, only odd thing you would need is plaster of paris
wildlife count
coconut half birdfeeders
pinecone birdfeeders (slather on peanut butter and roll in birdseed)
collect wild food for birds
Those are just a few. I am really excited for it to get warmer because we are going to do more of the ideas in the Wildlife Habitat book.
Also there are website suggestions every week and some video suggestions.

Jennifer I think I will email them about a computer version. I don't know if they would be willing to do that or not but I think it would be great.
