What inexpensive and/or synthetic yarns do you like?

I like Lion Brand's Homespun yarn and I really like Caron's Simply Soft. Simply Soft is soft, has a nice luster, and stays nice looking. I crocheted a blanket with it 11 yrs ago and it looks brand new...no pils or anything. I love it for things that I want to be able to toss into the washer and dryer and not have to worry about.

So spill it. You know you have some secrets in your stash :smirk:

I love the look of Homespun, but I have trouble using it. Now granted, that was a few years ago and I was trying to crochet. Now that I knit, it might be different, I don't know.

I'm using WoolEase right now for gloves for the boys, it's getting on my nerves knitting it, it keeps splitting, but I like the finished product and I like that I'll be able to wash them!

I really love some of the colors of Red Heart and have used it for soakers and slippers. Those slippers wear like iron. :)

I've knit with Simply Soft a couple of times, so far they haven't needed to be washed (one capelet, one shawl) so not sure how well it holds up. But it sure is soft.

I like the Homespun or Light and Lofty too and I agree whole heartedly on the Simply soft. I made Gandhi an afghan from it when we were dating and he loves it. I'm a clearance yarn junkie and if its a dollar or 2, I will buy it, hoard it, and find a use for it. (Or trade it with my mil who does the same thing. We get kinda giggly over yarn sales)

Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick (and whatever it is they sell at Patternworks that is similar).

I have 2 black skeins that DS#1 picked out for a hat, and a green skein leftover from another hat, so not exactly a stash.

I like it because most people I make things for don't want to care for 100% wool.

i like almost any and all acrylics (i tend to like the things that other people look down their nose at) but my favourite is LB homespun.

I have used LB Homespun to make many afghans, and they have always held up to wear and wash wonderfully. (They were all crocheted--haven't tried to knit on yet.)

I also like Cotton Ease (cotton/acryllic blend), LB Microspun is a pain to knit with (splits like crazy) but the finished project is so soft.

I think the most important things to me about any acrylic or acrylic blend yarn is for it to feel soft and wear well.

Simply Soft is my all-time favorite yarn. I use it 99% of the time, in everything from my sculptures to my kids' clothes. You can't beat the no-dye-lot thing, or the price (it's barely over $2/skein here), or the softness, & I agree it holds up well.

I like the Baby Soft too, & Bernat Softee Baby. Like Branwyn, I actually prefer acrylics.

I am a snob. I can't stand to knit with acrylics. It is a sensory thing. It makes weird noises and vibrations on the needles. But, you can't beat the price. Simply Soft is nice. I love cotton yarns, any and all. Wool is by far my favorite though.

I am not a yarn snob. I love funky novelty yarns and really have a blast winding together a couple or three different yarns to make a fabulous shawl or funky scarf. I actually sell more acrylic and novelty at my yarn shop that anything else. People LOVE my "homemade wound" yarn mixes, too. :)
My favorite yarn of all time is Ironstone Yarns Showstopper.

For inexpensive yarn I really enjoy Lion Brand "Homespun," and "Wool Ease Thick/Quick." Caron brand "Simply Soft" is really nice too. :)

I wish that were my dirty little secret!

My dirty little secret is that I only like to knit/crochet with really way too expensive soft soft WOOL yarn. Even when I'm making stupid things. Like play things for the kids (a "lake" for their wooden swans, or doll sweaters)! I waste so much money this way. I just can't stand the "feel" of anything else in my hands. I've tried the Lion's homespun and it is totally so soft and pretty but I still can't take it. It's like, my hands feel like they can't breathe or something. I can't wear acrylics either so I guess its just a body chemistry thing.

another homespun whore here :) I love that stuff!
I do not like simply soft though, I get a fingernails on chalkboard feel from it.
I can handle red heart yarn, it is cheap and I think it is good for teaching

Lately, I've been loving the 100% Merino Wool by Paton -- it's so, so soft. And great for felting. Not too bad @ $3.99 a skein too. :)
