while i am traveling, i am staying at my mamas and she has a sewing machine so i am taking advantage of it (since i dont have one at home :D)

yesterday evening - i made these (both younger girls and their dolls got them but i only got sarah on camera)

the traditional pseudo-historical mob cap (that all sca people and re-enactors hate with a passion, but i thought they woudl be cute for the girls anyway - since we aren't going to be re-enacting or anything)

and in my signature.

this evening - today i made the prairie bonnets, lyl was the only one i got on camera this evening. this almost didn't happen, i kept reading the pattern and telling myself it would be cheaper to just buy one ready made than to go to all the trouble. but if it's anything i love it's a challenge. so i sat down and was determined to master it!

i wasnt trying to be historically accurate with any of them, just wanted the girls to have some cute stuff to play in. i hope to finish the costumes to go with both this week

So far there isn't a pattern for GAoP period caps, just those darned mop caps that are *so* not historically correct. Best you can do is this page (http://www.marquise.de/en/1700/howto/frauen/18hauben.shtml) & do the math to figure out the inches vs. cm measurements. Hence the reason it took me 3 tries to get it right! Although I have heard that Reconstructing History (http://www.reconstructinghistory.com/) #713 will have a cap pattern in it. Not that I'm stalking or anything

OT: i really really want a regency gown. i had one when i was a teen and would pretend i was mary wollstonecraft - but at 31 i can't figure a way to play dress-up and not get carted to the looney bin (i am aware of no regency re-enactors in my area).

now if i wanted to re-enact the war of northern aggression, like my mama did, then yeah - but i believe i had my fill of that when i was a preteen. i do not care to continue to fight the war between the states over and over (knowing my side will never win lmao).

sometimes i really miss being goth and going to the clubs, i sometimes think the whole reason i got into it was because it was license to play dressup :D

now one of my husbands friends works at medieval times, he gets paid to dressup and fight on horseback.

okay i am rambling, must go shower and start the pioneer nightgowns or the 1960s kindergarten dress - haven't decided yet

LOL, you need to be a pirate. Free license to dress up, go out drinking (it's almost a requirement) & if anyone makes fun of you, you can either shoot em with your blunderbuss or gut them with your cutlass.
