I haven't had a child in diapers in at least 2 1/2 years. I really loved cloth diapering. When I used to tell people that we CD, I'd get such strange looks--like this :drop: And then I'd tell the person that cloth is so different than they think and that I couldn't pin a diaper to save my life. Oh, gosh, I just remembered Destiny--wasn't that her name? She was the master pinner (and maybe even those snapiis). And gosh, did I have a nice diaper stash. Remember how we used to pick our own fabrics? Oh, and the wait-lists. I remember waiting for months on certain lists. But boy were we excited when it was our turn :cuc:

Here's my list of favorites:

SOS--Christianson Creations? They were/are 1-size diapers and were super trim but absorbant. Fabrics were great--I had some cool vintage-looking prints. But then they became the "in" diaper and were hard to get (which was great when you sold them).

Luke's Drawers--who didn't/doesn't love Luke's Drawers?! I loved how soft the inner fabrics are. I had a few of her super old style that took days to dry and then I bought tons of her One-Size-Wonders. I LOVED them. Quick-dry, cute fabrics, and I had two babies in diapers, so the one-size was perfect. I never had to worry about which diaper went with which baby. DH liked these too. I LOVE her washies and I still have tons of them. They've held up for years (my little ones are 6 1/2 and 5 1/2!).

Bizzy-B-Hive AIO. Candy had the best fabrics and this was back in the day when you could pick your fabrics and diapers would be sewn for you. :drop: She had so many fabrics that I loved that I ordered diapers just for the fabrics not because I needed them. I was a diaper addict. :help:

Then of course there are the ones that aren't around anymore--Buckeye Bottoms, Zootkitty (they were AWESOME, too bad Katrina flaked), and my #1 favorite of all time--Gavies. Gavies were incredible. They came in sets--fitted diaper and coordinating cover. I googled her a few months ago and her site was still up, but she hasn't made any in years. She lost a baby and never sewed Gavies again. She was so loved and her loss touched so many of us.

And then of course the old standby--fuzzi bunz with either a hemp insert. Later they made the micro insert. I loved how thin they were-- especially on toddlers. They were so welcome after all those fat-diaper butt diapers. Finally a diaper that allowed our kids to wear regular clothing in their real size. I also loved them at night with a few hemp inserts.

So, what were your favorites from back in the day?

Oh, Mommyhearts! I loved those!

With Emma, I mostly used Snug to Fits with Bummis SIWWs. With John, it was all FuzziBunz with microfiber and hemp inserts.

Now it's all about My Little Pony and Thomas the Tank engine undies!

SOS, Sugarpeas, Firefly, First Class Baby/Little Caboose, Cuddlebuns (bikini cut)... Ah...those were the days! :hbeat: :)

Though I had a complete stash (about 30) of FCB/LC diapers (I was a tester and bought a whole bunch *before* they became hyena), I still think FBs were my favorite.

Then I started sewing my own and they became my favorite. ;)

Righteous Baby Shell Sets! I still have 2 smalls downstairs from almost 3 years ago... a sock monkey set and a aspen tree set. I've got them in the "to sell" pile but we'll see if I can actually part with them.

I also have a Tuesday's Bear Baseball Wool Set w/ a fleece topped hemp samuel's soaker inside... I stalked that first stocking on her site. I think I paid like $60 for that diaper. David wore it once for a picture, lol. That is in the "to sell" pile also....

I'm still using Luke's Drawers...best nighttime diapers I've had so far..we got them 4 years ago used off ebay

I still use 4 year old and older kissaluvs too.

Pretty much all my diapers are ancient now..mostly inherited, some bought when Eli was a baby. Most of my covers are getting up there, too. I use mostly wool, many made by me..but I still have old stacinators, and I have a couple of patchwork wool covers that I got from branwyn that are starting to fray a bit..who made them escapes me...arrrgh..

I switched to cloth just before ds turned 1, in '00. I absolutely loved Baby Moons (won 6 custom Baby Moons, in the first Chinese auction here), and original Fireflys, with the soaker sewn on the sides like wings (won a custom one of those too!). I have an original Bizzy B Hive (made by Sacha) that I still love, and Molly Togs and Cloth Babies that are wearing out, but still have a lot of life. I've got a Jenny Oh around here somewhere, and a Devin's Designs fleece cover that's about done. Fortunately, our Turtleduds fleece soaker is still going strong. I wanted Elkebellas, but the only one I got my hands on was a fleece cover with snap in diapers, and it hasn't worked well for either of my kids. Ooooh, and I loved my pinnable Country Cozys, and my Paige's P-Catchers. The only thing ds ever wore at night was original Fuzzi Bunz, fleece inner and outer, with a strip of pul inside. Sure wish she still made them like that, I loved the fleecy goodness! With dd, I loved newborn Nanipoos, and Poochies, I couldn't have diapered her infant butt without them!

Oh, and remember The Rag Lady? She made some super cool nursing shirts, by pairing recycled waffle weave henleys with flannel shirts. I wanted one so bad, but she didn't have a color combo that I liked in my size.

When I cloth diapered DS, I loved Cloud 9 Softies and Lukes Drawers. But also simple old Bumkins AIOs.

With DD, I had more hyena dipes and my favs were El Bees. :D

12-29-2006, 12:34 PM
I have a ton if different dipes, in the beginning I just liked prefolds and wool but then fell in love with others. I really liked Beccabottoms and found them to be the trimmest dipe out there. and of course there is Fuzzi bunz. If I could go back in time and just get all of those and none of the others I would. Most of my other dipes have fallen apart in the wash but those still work great and don't even look worn.

I tried sooo many kinds, but the ones that became my "mainstay" at one time or another, were
Happy Heiny's
Fireflies
Dewdrops
KiwiPie wool covers
CalicoBaby fleece covers

I had a couple of Elbees & First Class Baby, but they were so hard to get, that I focused on other diapers that I loved just as much.

eta...Oh and Freshies! I LOVED Kendall's diapers, omg they were awesome, and perfectly sewn. But extremely rare and hard to find. Love her Mama cloth too.

I remember when I was researching cloth diapers when I was pregnant with my first (in 2001). It took me forever to figure out all the different terminology- prefolds (what, they aren't actually folded?!), soakers, doublers, liners, wraps...

I about choked when I saw that Kissaluvs were $12 per diaper!

I used prefolds for a while. Then I really coveted Luke's Drawers One Size Wonders and bought a bunch of them used on ebay. They were really nice and squishy soft. I had some hemp Liz's Cloth dipes that I liked for night time. I really got into SOS and had a bunch of those for a while too.

My very first WAHM diaper was Ivy Rose and I stuck with Jen through her diaper making years - and now get her clothing whenever I can.

I also swore by Bizzy B wool-in-ones and Sugar Peas wool-in-ones for getting us through the night with my super soaker.

Lucy's Hope Chest was awesome too - I bought mediums for Joanna when she was about 3 months old that lasted her until I sold them earlier this year (so over 3 years).

I honestly don't think there was a diaper I just didn't like. I had so many (had a lot of fun diapering) and I'm now just about done with diapers. :(

OMGosh--I just remembered Honeyboys! I can't believe that none of us mentioned that. Remember how they'd go for over $100 on auction?! I remember a few going for more than $200!

Now, is it ok to mention those that we hated?

Cloud 9 Softies are my absolute favorite of all time diaper
SOS
El Bee baby

I think I have tried over 100 brands of diapers in my 12 years of diapering. WAHM are the best by far.

When I started using cloth on Saige over 4 years ago I loved using sugarpeas, fireflies, cuddlebuns (bikini cut), Full Moon Baby Gear, babysoftwraps, and SOS.

With Alex I used peewell, fuzzi bunz, first class baby, and happy hieny.

I didn't start cloth with my oldest until she was around 1. She wore prefolds and prowraps. I did make her a couple of Honeyboys (I bought a sewing machine and the pattern). Of course, we moved and they got packed away, then she potty trained.

While I was pregnant with ds I made him three dozen or so flannel fitted dipes based on the honeyboy pattern. He wore those until he grew into his SOS diapers. I pretty much used SOS diapers and MEOS with ME airflows and Alexis Featherlite pull ons. He was in cloth until I got pregnant with my youngest dd and couldn't stomach it.

My youngest wore only Dewdrops and MEOS with the airflows and pull-ons. I think she only wore cloth for a few months though. It was a bad hurricane season and I didn't want to have dirty dipes waiting to be washed.

Ahh, the memories.

I still have lots of my zootkitties. I wanted to email her and ask if I could buy her patterns cuz even though I liked my diapers I absolutely LOVED zookitties.

Honeyboys (I finally snagged 1 right at the end of Jody owning it)
Gavies

Otherwise I was mainly a pocket diaper mama. I had my own little biz and used those 99% of the time.

Oh, and remember The Rag Lady? She made some super cool nursing shirts, by pairing recycled waffle weave henleys with flannel shirts. I wanted one so bad, but she didn't have a color combo that I liked in my size.

I loved her recycled dipes too. I believe her name is Valerie. I also loved Jenny Oh's and Luke's drawers.

I also remember when it was popular to make butt sweaters from old wool sweaters.

I loved Cloud 9's, Elkebellas, Baby Moons, Sweet Pea, Molly Togs, Poochies...I was the first wahm to wholesale Kissaluvs - I remember when I got a box of 96 of them, in the yummy colors - blueberry, raspberry, buttersotch and more - I had them on my bed and I just hugged as many as I could get my arms around!!
Then she flaked on me so that was short lived :(

Then I started making my own ~baby carrots~, and they were my favorites.

My oldest 3 used prefolds and covers.. then came the good ones.

Righteous Baby were some of my favorite, Ann's wool covers were awesome, and the FLAG's were great too.
SOS', Firefly's, Cloud 9's, Poochies, Bizzy B Hive (loved these!), Sugarpeas Wool Covers, and then WIO's, Ivy Rose, Lucy's Hope Chest, Happy Heiny's and Molly Togs.

I'm sure there were more I'm forgetting, these are the ones that come to mind. My all time favorite was Fuzzi Bunz, no matter how many cutsie diapers I had, we always came back to FB's.

I remember adding up how much $ I had in diapers at one time with Adriana, and it was scary.

i loved mollytogs and cloud 9 softies. i still have about a dozen softies that i'm hoping to use on our new baby this summer. i also loved elbees with my second, but they weren't around when my first was a baby.

I love my own converted prefolds to prefitteds with Ruskovilla wool covers
Ivy rose wool covers with a snappi'ed prefold are wonderful as well.

My dd's have very short rises so a lot of fitteds don't work. I love fuzzi buns though...but I don't like synthetics....

I remember placing my first order for WAHM diapers. The reply was that my order would ship in about 3 weeks. I was shocked. I had a lot to learn about the WAHM world.
I mostly used prefolds when we first started. I loved Bellies and Buns side snaps. I actually got a dozen El Bee Baby at $12, it was right before they became the IT diaper. I also liked Angel Wraps, Daisy Doodles, Little Dumpling Diapers and for Mom's Day Out "preschool" I used Happy Heinys. DS's teacher was so great about going with the cloth.
I had so many diapers they were coming out of my ears. Many of the ones that I hated are still in a box in the basement barely used. I always felt really bad selling them, like I was trying to take advantage of someone.

I thought my clothe diaper obsession was over, but I was reading the Around the Town news magazine and in the schedule for January one of the kids stores is hosting a cloth diaper discussion. I called right then and registered. Mine have been out of diapers for 2 years.

Oh wow, I forgot about Angelwraps, wtheck is wrong with me, we had soo many Angelwraps, they were the ONLY AIO that we used, and we used them the whole time, that, Dewdrops & KiwiPie are the only ones we started fairly soon with, and were still using at the very end. Ahh, the Angelwraps, I still remember my fave. ones. *sniff sniff*

Babymoons, especially the DSQ ones made from prefolds. I actually owned the first Babymoon ever made!
Mollytogs
Luke's Drawers
Hannah's Orchards

There are many more I loved, but I can't remember their names anymore. :eyes:

Then I started making my own ~baby carrots~, and they were my favorites.

Patsy. I loved your baby carrots. I had one with little carrots on the outer print too. I wonder if you remember making it?

Goodness - I don't even know where to start! There's a couple I LOVED, but I'm having a hard time remembering the name. One was made by Claudia, they were all hemp fleece, and super trim - calico something?? Toadies were the other. I had one lonely Ivy Rose in my favorite flannel fairy print, I finally got rid of it after replacing the elastic 2x and the fabric was getting so thin, it really wasn't all that absorbant anymore, but the fit was awesome on my kids.

I remember when Susan (??) made cuddlebuns, and Jodi Honeyboys. And what about Sweet Pickles?!?! I miss the old auction site ;)

I should remember more, but my brain is completely fried, and I actually feel a bit bad for not remembering!!

I have a sellin threads hemp nb sized fitted on my fsot, OMG was that dipe AWESOME for Randa when she was brand new, it held tons but was really trim. I don't know where she found that hemp, because it is the only fully hemp (except for the fleece liner on one of the soakers) that never gets stiff. Great diaper!!

newborn~Kissaluvs sz 0. although I think it's just because they are so darn cute and tiny!

fitteds~ SOS diapers. Suzie ROCKS! even though ever bit of elastic blew in everysingle diaper...that sucked. Even diapers I had only used a few months. They still worked fine, but there's no way I could resell them.

covers~ Motherease

most economical, simple and still work? prefolds, pins and alexis covers.

It has been so long. I bought my first dipes, ME Sandys, from Catherine at BTL in 8/98 for about $6 each! Sandys and Popolinos were our mainstays for the first couple of years (I had 27 small Sandys, 24 large Sandys, and 6 Pops), and were the base of our dipe system even later. We also used ME AIOs and Kushies Ultras.

I had a Bizzy B Hive tie-dye made by Sacha...I loved that dipe. I had a few custom L'il Comets that were great. I loved my SOS diapers. I had Poochies, Benjamuffins, Nanipoos...it has been so long since I had a babe in dipes that I hardly remember (DS#2 potty learned at 2.5 YO which was fall 2002). I know I had many more brands than the ones I can remember. Usually just one or two here or there (although I had at least 6 SOS). WAHM dipes exploded that last year before I was done, and I knew we were close to the end and I didn't go crazy buying. In fact, I had 24 XL Sandys that I had purchased before the Canadian retailers couldn't sell to us anymore, and I sold those off brand new to help finance a double jogger, because we never needed them that big.

Of course, we tried DSQ prefolds; infant in the beginning, and the unbleached type later.

ME Air Flow covers were our favorite, although not natural. I had a wool Biobottoms cover I loved, and a Nikky, and cotton covers, Alexis, Dappi pull-ons, etc. I had an Aristocrat that never worked for us. I hated Fuzzi-Bunz.

I suppose if I was doing it again I'd go with organic cotton prefolds and 100% organic wool covers. I'd avoid plastic snaps and elastic. I don't think it would be easier, but being organic and compostable is super important to me right now.

My first child had prefolds and pins and pull on pants in 1990/92
My second one had hour glass shaped chinese made cotton with wraps.

My third child had AIOs (I was so sick of pins and wraps!)

It reminds me of the joy of WAHMall.

Anyway

Other than my own creation (BeniBoi) which was made from 2001-2004

My faves were

Country Cuttins
Cinnimynis

SOS--Christianson Creations (spectacular construction job!)

Fuzzi Bunz were useful (though not pretty to my eye)

I enjoyed seeing the growth back then with the creator of Gavies and Little Lanes.

Zootkitty was cool too (but she left the amitymama land in shame which is sorrowful).

On to other things these days!

This thread is such a trip down memory lane! I had Poochies, Toadies, Fireflies, Rosie Cheeks and Cloud 9 dipes that I just adored. I once snagged a used Honeboy for a decent price and that was the pride of my stash for a while. I loved to look at it, but was scared to use it because of the price lol.
