I`m a beginning knitter - only made a dishcloth so far, and it looks a little funny  I was wondering, would this hat be a good starting or learning pattern? TIA :)

www.knitlist.com\95gift\simphat.htm gotta turn the slashies the other way, probably not clickable. Sorry my slashes and apostrophe are not working for some reason.... and I cannot copy\paste either :vent: dh says he can fix - tomorrow

Simple Hat (http://www.knitlist.com/95gift/simphat.htm)

Just fixed your link. :)

I don't think it would be too hard. As long as you can knit, purl, k2tog and ssk you should do great!

Thank you for fixing the link :D Dh fixed my computer (he waved his magic geek wand AFAIK  )
I'll have to look for a link that shows the stitches in motion - I have one for crochet and it's nice to actually see someone physically do it. Right now I just k and p, but k2tog can't be that hard. ssk = slip, slip, knit - right? I'm sure I can find a site to help. All my knitter friends live too far away :eyes:

Thanks so much Tricia!

check out KnittingHelp.com : Learn to Knit - Free online Knitting Videos. (http://knittinghelp.com/)

It has always helped my way more to see someone actually do it than try to figure out pictures from a book.

Thanks for the link, Holly! That will help immensely :D And I caught today's Knitty Gritty - today they were teaching how to knit. I think it was made just for us beginners!

Another question I hadn't even thought to ask though - that same pattern, does it call for double pointed needles? I have 3 sets of "regular" needles, they all have stoppers on one end. Or could I use them? I think they're pretty long, and just might hold 88 stitches. Guess it's kinda trial and error, huh.... I'm going out tomorrow night to craft stores, and if the double pointed are what I need I can pick some up.

Thanks for all the help so far too :big hug:

No need for double point needles. You just knit it and then sew up the side. Instructions for seaming are here (scroll down) (http://knittinghelp.com/knitting/basic_techniques/misc.php). I like using the matress stitch with a Chibi needle (http://www.stitchesmarket.com/xcart/customer/product.php?productid=1521) that is bent on the end.

Good Luck!

Can you post this link? I tried ssk and found it to be very difficult. I just switched to k2tog. The hat was felted so it was fine. But, I'd like to learn to ssk properly.
