Since there are a lot of mamas from all over the country, I'd like to put who I'm looking for here. I'd love to compare notes with anyone looking for the same folks in the same general areas! :)

Dad's side:
Hensley (northwestern NC - likely via England, northeastern TN, southeastern KY)
Carman (NJ, southwestern OH)
Cornett (southeast KY)
Arnett (southeast KY)

Mom's side:
Williams (northeastern KY specifically, I know it's a common surname!)
Turner (southwestern TN, northeastern AR, again I know it's common)
Lampkin (Ireland, probably Southwest or Shannon region)
Spears (northwestern NC - near Cherokee people, possibly moved to northeastern AR)

I have a bunch of names, info, things like that, but of course I'm looking to prove them with census records, birth/death certificates, and the like. My Hensley line I have traced to my being related to George Washington (president #1, yes), but I can't prove the relation to him yet - it just looks likely.

Anyone have some of the same names? Or list your own and we can all help out!

This hobby becomes an absolute obsession for me every few months or so - being a Gemini I tend to have to jump around in my interests to keep me interested

My dad's mom is a Spears from NC (cherokee area).

Other than that....I am lousy at geneology!

My uncle (who does all the Native American research for us) said that his 'connections' told him - Spears is a common name around Cherokee parts, especially NC. I've been able to find Great-Granny Spears on the Dawes Rolls (kinda like "Indian Census" back in the day) but I've found 3 or 4 with the same name/year of birth. I'd love to head in that direction and see what I could find where - maybe even find a couple of little bitty cemeteries to transcribe. I know it might sound weird, but there's insight to be had there if you're not creeped out.... like me :o

All you'd need to find out would be your parent's parent's names, and as far back as they can remember, then go from there. It can get very addicting and time-consuming, but I started on this back in 7th grade (1989?) and have poked around on and off since then :D

Therre's more I can't remember anymore and mom is gone now. We are from all OVER the country..my ancestors settled the 2nd German settlement in Virginia and progressed slowly west from there..the last millers were in Seattle area. (My mother and grandmother were born there).

My father's name was Frankle, and his father was half german, half irish..the irish name was Malone, so pretty common. My grandmothers name was Bellack, and her mother's was Tishak. Beyond that I've no clue anymore.
