Just wondering about this today.
If you have, what was the situation and how have you handled it?

I guess... but in a different context I think. I sometimes "get away" with things that guys don't because I am a woman :o

Negative sexism - no.

Yes when I worked in a factory I was put on a line making $7 an hour.
I wanted to drive the forklift for $12 an hour but they didn't hire women for the forklift.


When I worked as a wildlife biologist I was the first woman one company had ever hired to work in the field. I definitely had to prove myself. Great group of guys though. Can't complain.

Now sexual harrassment, that's a whole 'nother ball of wax.

Thinking more about it, I can't say I experience sexism at my job. I'm sort of watchful, being an ultra-feminist. There's another manager (male) who's at an equal level to me, and I've been going through this phase of carving out my territory and responsibilites. In a way it's sort of an alpha dog fight. But no real problems as yet.

I worked at a carpentry shop, before dd was born, where I was the first woman to ever work there. My big complaint about it was that I was forced to quit when I got pregnant, which I found out later is illegal. The deal was that I couldn't physically do the job anymore, but I didn't know that I was legally entitled to a job there which I coud physically do while pg. I loved that job, so I was bitter about it for awhile.
Oh yeah, and a few years later, when talking to this old boss, he had the nerve to say, "You were the first woman I ever hired, and what did you do, you went and got pregnant, like a typical woman." ( :vent: !)
OK, I'm over it, really. I just need to vent about that every now and then.

Had clients assume that I was a coworker's wife (instead of an engineer).

Had older boss tell me that I should be home to cook dinner for DH.:drop: And the I should sweep the job site b/c I should know how.

Apparently he's never seen my house or how skinny DH is.:lol:

Yes, when I was a flight attendant, there were pilots that pulled that bull****. One guy who had been flying since the '70's always acted like he was the captain--literally--on and OFF the plane. He would be like "debriefing at 1700 hours in the bar downstairs" and he actually expected us to be there! I would only show if he was buying ;)

Not by coworkers, but by some of the less sophisticated individuals I get to deal with. For some reason, a woman with a badge and gun has to be a bull *@%$. Oh, maybe it's not the gun, maybe it's the lack of makeup - right?
