I went to a clothing swap this weekend and I couldn't resist picking up a half-dozen or so pure wool sweaters. They are different thicknesses and one has a lot of angora content.

Ideas????? We're out of the diapering phase. ;)

I made a really great blanket and some placemats from mine and now obsessively check for wool sweaters every time I hit a thrift store. The blanket is entirely sweaters cut into squares with reverse alplique. the placemats are a recycled wool blanket with felted sweaters for the applique.

This site has several product lines that are made of sweaters. [http://www.crispina.com/collections/index.html

I have also seen them made into handbags, totes, penny rugs, hats, and vests. Congratulations on the haul!

MITTENS!! i had a bunch of scraps after making some diaper covers and couldn't figure out what to do with them until someone suggested mittens. they're soooooooooooooooooo easy! just do some tracings of your hand and use some stretchy fabric for the cuffs (i used stretchy wool jersey and ribbed knit on some pairs i made)

I've been felting sweaters from the thrift store to make a blanket.
I've made a purse out of a sweater too.

I never thought about placemats. Those are really nice.

One of my mom's magazines (possibly woman's day) had a craft article that showed how to felt a sweater and turn it into a purse. You basically felt the sweater and then lay it flat and cut off the sleeves and collar (kind of looks like a pair of squared off bib overalls top when you are done cutting. After cutting you fold the sweater so the front and back are now the sides, sew across the bottom, and then you turn down and zig zag all the rough edges of the handles and top part of the bag.

Thanks mamas! I think dh is actually going to wear a couple of them...but I have at least two supersoft thin cabled ones (one ivory with tons of angora and one light blue) and possibly a red stratchy-ish wool one.

I have a lot of ideas now! I have gotten really busy with a bunch of winterizing chores around the house but once those are done I will post what I end up doing with them.
