We've got our first dental visit in decades on tuesday & I need to be prepared!

What do I need to know about not wanting floride etc for DD, what about for myself? how do I explain what I do not want it to the dentist? We're on state medical care so this is the only dentist that we can see. Based on the converstation I had on the phone it's going to be a battle. Short sinppets of what I can say would be wonderful. I know what we don't want but don't know how to justify them to a DDS who is set in their way YK.
