W/ ds off to kindergarten I realized I don't have a good way to send things in his lunch. I use glass at home but not so good for lunches, lol. I am looking for some 1/2-1 cup size ss containers w/ good lids. I found some on the Williams-Sonoma websitd (web only) but they have lids that sit inside rather than on top. Also, I think they are bigger than a cup size and smaller would be better. Anyone found anything? I will probably get those if I don't find anything else.

I sure haven't. I have been looking for a couple weeks. I found some nice pop top plastic ones at Ikea and finally settled on two of those. I also got him a thermos and a stainless water bottle, but for the small things? nope. I didn't even find PLASTIC dip contianers. I love being able to send him with carrot sticks and dip, or garden tomatos and dip etc, but I can't find any this year... odd...

I have not found any. I have been looking for two years. LNT, BBB, etc. do not have them locally or on the net. The PearlRiver site above is out of stock, always. Our coop has some but it looks like the tops sit on, not snap on. I keep hunting. I hate using plastic.

Well, I wonder about stainless steel bowls. I have some tiny ones and have used a plastic bag laid on top and secured with a rubber band.
yes, some plastic is used, but wouldn't there be plastic involved if I bought those snap on lids, too?
I don't know. I finally bought ds a glass pyrex bowl to take to school yesterday. Not sure how long it will last. I also send him with a small glass jar to take his morning snack in.
For drinking, I found a very small stainless steel canteen on ebay.
I'm trying so hard not to use plastic. :(

My son had glass containers in his lunch (Pyrex) every day for 3 years in pre-K and K. Never broke once! Those things are sturdy :)

We use the Thermos wide mouth food jars. I have one, the one with the spoon and lid, which we don't use (we just fill it and put the gray top on). My mom got one at Target that is huge, black on the outside, stainless on the inside, and the top acts as a bowl (but is plastic).
I use the Rubbermaid (I think) plastic containers for cut-up chicken and maple syrup for oatmeal, and sometimes for popcorn/chips for snack (or plastic bags). I do. I confess. I replace them every single year and just give them a quick but thorough wash with gentle soap and warm water every day. They are the ones that are not so soft as to be considered "disposable" but thicker like Tupperware, the kind that is not supposed to get sauce stains. They would not like it if I sent glass. :P

Indian Food stores usually have loads of different stainless steel stuff for table ware and storage.
For other glass options, mason jars do work well and they come in small sizes..you know for canning gift sizes of jams/jellies etc. THose things are tough..
To go ware lunch boxes are great and my dd can do the clamp and put them all back together~she is 4.5 yo.

I also agree that esp the 1/2 pint masons with the wide mouth, are VERY sturdy. Alex has been using his for the last two weeks to bring Applesauce, yogurt, and other things to school in and we haven't been contacted about it or anything. I thought that the lunch people would freak out if I sent glass... but apparently it went unnoticed.
It was def worth the try. ;)
