View Full Version : Need to get back on the saving rather than earning mind set

In the last year with all its upsets I have rally fallen off of the wagon both in thrift and crunch. It seems that I used to spend my time doing things that would save us money and now I keep feeling like I need to make money. I am getting really tired of sewing all the time for profit rather than fun and it takes away the time I spend on saving money (not to mention time away from my family). I just really need to get back on track and switch my priorities so that I will be more relaxed and have less stress.
Has anyone else ever felt this way?
Thanks for listening to my off the head banter.

i can totally relate to falling into the earning rather than saving mindset. it's hard to get rid of the "more" voice in your head. it's much more natural than thinking "less." i'm proud of you for getting back on track (well...thinking about spending less rather than earning more is back on track imo).

It is actually not a thought of spending less because we don't spend much but just being more aware and getting back to doing things the way I used to. The money I earn is not to have more but rather to pay off the debt we accrued during our contracting nightmare.

It's the cornerstone guide of Tightwad Gazette.
I think about it all the time, but fall woefully short.
When I think of what I spend on lessons alone, my mind boggles. What to cut?
We make 'enough', but college looms and it's a compelling consideration. :smirk:

The same thing has been in my head lately too. Though I do need to cut spending and we have debt to pay also. I've been tempted to take a part time job but then think of all the stress it would cause the rest of the family and how little time dh and I have to spend together now.... it's just not worth it. Dh and I did talk about our spending plan and found some easy changes. He decided to ask for more weekend days (he's on salary but can make extra if he works a weekend day) From November to January we have three kids birthdays and Christmas so we hope to make all those expenses up from his overtime. Any costcutting $ will go to debt. If I could get back in the frugal mindset we could be doing so much more.

oh...i see what you mean. yea...we have a HUGE student loan, and i often think about how i should earn $$ to put toward that at least. at this rate, we'll be really old when it's gone...lol! dh has no desire for me to be away from the family at all to make $$ to put towards that or anything else.

He also has no desire for me to go to work but I just feel like I have all this fabric and machines and I should be doing something with it to help us out.
I just need to get over it I guess.
