with the free Ottobre diaper soaker pattern.

www.ottobredesign.com

In the pattern you need to decrease to shape the crotch of the diaper. The directions read like this:

Bind off 2 stitches at the beginning of the next 8 rows, i.e. at both edges of the work.

I don't get it, now something may have been lost in the translation. I subscribe to the magazine and it can be difficult to get a response. Shouldn't shaping happen on both sides of the leg opening equally? Meaning that stitches should be taken from both edges equally. The way it is written doesn't add up They write that you should be left with 14 (making the larger size here) stitches on the needle (from 46).

TIA for whatever help you can offer me. :)

If you bind off 2 stictches at each end, then 4 stitches are decreased on each row. If you do that for 8 rows then 8 times 4 = 32, which is the difference between 46 and 14.
Make sure to post a picture when you get the soaker done!

I'm sorry, I still don't get it. If I'm binding off only at the beginning of each row, how is that at both ends? I don't know how to bind off at the end of a row.

If you bind off 2 sts at the beginning of each row then you do decrease from both sides, because decrase of every other row is on the other side. Basically, 4 times you bind off in the beginning of the right side of the diaper cover and 4 times on the back (wrong) side. Now, as far as the numbers go, I canīt help you there. I remember reading somewhere that there is some kind of mistake in the ottobre pattern but since I never tried it myself I donīt remember what exactly.

The ottobre soaker problem has been covered in this yahoo group for sure, I saw it at least twice

For your next soaker, I would suggest to use either http://community.livejournal.com/punk_knitters/110889.html
or
http://fernandfaerie.com/freesoakerpattern.html
Both make very good soakers :)

Hope it helps
