cole is almost 4. he knows his letters & their sounds.

i'm going to get HWT & start with that. what else should we be doing? what will you be doing? do you use "the well trained mind"?

basically i need suggestions of "curriculums", websites, whatever a new homeschooler needs. thanks:p

We did Sonlight PreK, HWT, and Singapore Earlybird. It worked great for us.

I can't wait to see what everyone has to say to this. I was just going to post the same question.

I love letteroftheweek.com for free curriculum. She has some great info on her site.

argh...we have an appointment on friday. i'm free (right now ;) ) pretty much any day next week.

how is monday for you? same time? or tuesday?

(i'm adjusting to this scheduling thing...i'm normally a fly by the seat of my pants kind of mom but i'm finding with work i'm having to schedule a bit more lately...i think that is my biggest challege! i've got all my school stuff out today, scheduling in my software for the first month of school. hoping the next couple days remain relatively quiet...)

so far that next week is open too. i'll be on call (as i am now) so i won't be going anywhere, nor do i have any postpartum clients lined up. i'm probably not going to be able to take any more PP clients this month anyways bc i have a lot to do to prepare for school...we're starting the last week of the month.

My Dd is at the same spot and we are using (and like):

*Modern Curriculum press Book A

*Italic Book A

*And this free online (printable) phonics program:
http://www.societyforqualityeducation.org/stairway.html

For math We love Math-u-see.

I do use a lot of WTM suggestions. Not all have worked for our family, but overall I find their recommendations great. Once dd is done with MCP, I will move on to McRuffy press 1st grade. I love McRuffy press curriculums and wish I have found them sooner.

I have been schooling a group of four preschoolers this past year, two of them were four years old. (I have a home based preschool program). I've homeschooled a couple of my own children too.

Here is my good advice for that age (you may be doing it already).

Get your child a good pair of fiskar children's sissors with a blunt tip (for 4years and up NOT 5 years and up...they are pointy!) and scotch tape and paper and glue sticks, crayola washable markers, crayons, jumbo and regular pencils and etc. This is the perfect time of year to find everything at the stores!

Several times a week, do cutting, drawing, painting, glueing, etc.

It works the fine motor muscles, builds creativity and confidence with the materials and is fun (which makes it not seem like learning).

Have Cole start to write his name (if he doesn't already). Start with just making a functional C....then move on to an O.......etc.

Math wise I like this book a lot.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0789457202/sr=1-4/qid=1154643368/ref=sr_1_4/103-2136584-8104666?ie=UTF8&s=books....though you should wait til your child is five to start it. There is NO rush to learn every subject under the sun this year!

Have fun.

thanks mari! i just need a little direction as this is completely new territory for me. i was talking to a homeschooling grandma (homeshooled her 2 boys & now her granddaughter) & she was saying exactly what you said about the fine motor skills & just having fun/playing & learning at the same time.

he is trying to write his name & loves to cut & tape!

thanks so much!!
